The III Universiade, which brings together students from branches of Russian universities and state higher education institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, has started in the city of Tashkent. These competitions, scheduled for three days, have already become a significant autumn sporting event for student youth.
This year, approximately 400 students representing 14 different higher educational institutions of the country participated in the event. The Universiade program covers four sports: mini-football, basketball, volleyball, and chess. The competitions are held simultaneously on different venues, maintaining a high pace and tension.
In both intellectual chess matches and active sets of volleyball and basketball, young men and women compete in separate categories, demonstrating excellent preparation, tactical skill, and a desire to win. Matches involving men's mini-football teams particularly attract the public's attention, with the stands actively supporting their teams.
Holding the Universiade for the third time confirms its status as a traditional platform for strengthening youth interaction between Russia and Uzbekistan. Organizers and coaches emphasize that the project's goal goes beyond purely sporting activities; it promotes a healthy lifestyle, fosters team spirit, and, most importantly, allows students from different educational institutions to establish contacts, share experiences, and build friendships.
The large-scale event was organized by the Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, which is based at the Russian House in Tashkent. The report was prepared by Mikhail Dovlatov.
