Photo exhibition 'From Jordan to Uzbekistan with Love' is held in Tashkent

The competition for the 'Best Afro-Pop Album' award at the 32nd South African Music Awards (SAMA) during the 'Homecoming Edition' is one of the most anticipated categories this year.

A representative from the South African Music Awards, Unathi Gwida, noted that the 'Best Afro-Pop Album' category reflects the exceptional depth of talent in South Africa. Five performers—Lwazi Ndlunkulu, Cici, Sjava, Nomfundi Mo, and Samthing Soweto—are vying for one of the evening's main awards. Their projects over the past year have captured public attention, offering diverse narratives and stylistic approaches.

Finalists' Projects

Lwazi Ndlunkulu presented the album 'Amaciko,' which she describes as a celebration of culture and identity. This project blends afro-pop with traditional Zulu motifs in the urban maskandi genre. The artist called the album a 'love letter to her ancestors and every woman and man who carries the burden of culture yet dares to be modern and build an empire.'

Cici released the album 'Busisiwe 2.0,' which is her first full studio work following 'Sukulila.' The project is dedicated to a personal phase of healing and achieving artistic authenticity after a period of external influence. She explained that the album symbolizes returning to herself, as she was previously surrounded by people who did not see her vision.

Sjava approached the nomination with humor, stating that he could create friendly rivalry among his colleagues. His nominated release, 'Inkanyezi 2.0 Live,' showcases the energy of live performances, mixing afro-pop, soul, and traditional sounds.

Nomfundi Mo, with her EP 'Out The Box,' explores new musical directions, moving between afro-pop, maskandi, R&B, and dance music. Meanwhile, she maintains her signature trait—sincere storytelling, touching on themes of love, loss, and broken hearts, while integrating the growing sound of South African 3-Step.

Samthing Soweto's album 'Touch Is a Move (Good Morning)' is considered the most conceptual in this category. It is inspired by childhood memories of life in Soweto in the 1990s and tells the story of a young man facing family issues, friendship, and first life lessons. The metaphor of the album's title reflects responsibility and the consequences of choices.

Unathi Gwida added that the impact of the South African Music Awards extends beyond mere recognition of artists. The festival promotes tourism, stimulates the local economy, and opens opportunities for small businesses, creative workers, and entrepreneurs. Furthermore, the event encourages visitors to explore the attractions, culture, and hospitality of the North West province, strengthening its reputation as a leading entertainment destination.

Date and Venue of the Awards Ceremony

The 32nd South African Music Awards will take place on Saturday, August 15th, at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West province. Until the winners are announced, fans across the country continue to make their predictions.

Various events are scheduled to take place in Durban this week, including the return of Joseph Clark to the Opera Theatre stage and a special puppet talent competition.

Joseph Clark's Return

Joseph Clark will once again perform on the stage of the Opera Theatre, which is his creative home as a ballet dancer, actor, and singer. After two successful performances in 2024 that generated great public interest, he is returning with his legendary show 'Queen at the Opera.'

This year's concerts promise to be an even brighter event, as local choirs will participate, performing iconic compositions by the band Queen. Clark, supported by lead guitarist Ax Lorenz, will present an extensive repertoire of Queen hits such as 'Somebody To Love,' 'Another One Bites The Dust,' and 'Under Pressure.'

Clark's International Experience

Clark has gained recognition from audiences both in South Africa and abroad, having given brilliant performances in Europe, the Middle East, the United States, and across Africa. Among his most memorable performances was a concert at the sold-out Gelredome stadium with a capacity of 30,000 spectators.

In an interview with the 'Daily News', Clark noted that he does not consider himself an imitator of great artists, but rather strives to give the public an echo of these geniuses' music. His goal is to create an atmosphere of magic that can evoke nostalgia in some and new discoveries in others. The performances will take place at the Playhouse Opera Theatre from Friday to August 2nd.

Puppet Talent Competition

Additionally, a talent competition organized by South African ventriloquist Conrad Koch will take place in Durban. He will gather his puppets for a special competition, although the puppet Chester Missing does not obey orders. Spectators will be able to enjoy a show featuring characters such as Gunter the German mosquito, Hilton the dramatic ostrich, DJ Hoodie, who actually DJs, Mr Dixon, a high school teacher, and an unexpected guest.

The event will take place at the Rhumbelow Theatre, Northlands Bowling Club, Durban North, from Friday to Sunday.

A new law has come into force in Uzbekistan aimed at improving the state management system in the field of cultural heritage.

Legislative Changes

This legislation introduces amendments to a number of legal acts, clarifying the powers of national executive bodies responsible for the preservation and use of cultural heritage sites.

New Law and Powers

According to Law No. ZRU-1160 dated July 23, 2026, the Agency for Cultural Heritage has been granted additional powers. In particular, the agency is now authorized to carry out state supervision over compliance with legislation regulating the protection and use of tangible cultural heritage.

Furthermore, the agency will participate in the development and implementation of state programs concerning the protection, preservation, promotion, and use of tangible cultural heritage objects. It will also be responsible for discovering, registering, protecting, popularizing, and facilitating the use of such objects, as well as for organizing and conducting historical and cultural expertise of relevant heritage objects.
