The complex known as 'Blue Domes,' which is an example of modernist architecture in Tashkent, will undergo complete restoration and reconstruction. This work will be based on the results of scientific research and will be carried out in accordance with generally accepted international standards for the preservation of architectural heritage, according to the Uzbekistan Cultural Heritage Agency.
Inspection of the Heritage Site
After information emerged that the mosaic on the cafe roof domes had been removed, the first deputy director of the agency, Elmurod Nazimov, along with architect Vil Muratov, the creator of the structure, inspected this cultural heritage site.
History and Status of the Building
The cafe itself was built between 1968 and 1970 and is recognized as one of Tashkent's iconic places. In 2019, it was officially included in the National List of Immovable Tangible Cultural Heritage Objects by a Cabinet of Ministers decree.
Over the following years, during renovation activities, the mosaic decoration of the object underwent changes. Currently, with the participation of Vil Muratov, work has begun to restore the 'Blue Domes' to their original appearance.
Restoration Team
The Agency announced the formation of a specialized working group. It will include leading international experts in modernist architecture, as well as renowned architects, art historians, and restoration specialists. Among the project participants are Ekaterina Golovatyuk, Boris Chukhovich, and Fatima Abdurakhmanova.
Representatives of the Cultural Heritage Agency emphasized that the main goal of the project is to preserve the historical, artistic, and architectural value of the 'Blue Domes,' restore all original elements, and pass this unique monument on to future generations.
