The IIT Rurikov Institute issued a clarification regarding a supposed email sent to students aimed at preventing protests, stating that many media reports on the matter are erroneous. According to the institute's information, the recommendation sent to students and staff concerning social media and public activity was not a new directive but part of a regular annual internal consultation.
IIT Rurikov rejected the claim that this recommendation constituted a restriction on students' right to express opinions or participate in protests. The institute emphasized that the main goal of such guidelines is to maintain safety on campus, protect the academic environment from potential violations, and ensure the uninterrupted operation of the institution.
The institution expected all students and personnel to use social media responsibly and avoid any actions that could negatively affect the order or safety of the institute. Previously, some student organizations and social media posts claimed that the institute had banned participation in online and offline protests.
Following the emergence of these reports, IIT Rurikov officially provided clarifications, noting that the recommendation was presented out of context. The institute reaffirmed its respect for students' freedom of expression but insisted that all actions must be conducted in compliance with legislation, institute rules, and campus safety measures. Thus, the recommendation is intended to promote responsible behavior and preserve the academic atmosphere, not to restrict legal rights.
AfriForum Youth has called on Transport Minister Barbara Crisi to take a driving license examination. This initiative stems from the belief of the youth organization that the new computerized tests have made obtaining a driver's license virtually impossible for young people.
According to available data, the national success rate for this test has dropped by almost 30%, and in some provinces, the pass rate has only reached 17%. AfriForum Youth believes that the minister should personally verify her knowledge of traffic rules to confirm the fairness of the current system.
Furthermore, the youth organization plans to take the test alongside the minister to gain insight into the experience of thousands of young citizens facing the new system.
Hanno Koster, a youth leader of AfriForum Youth, noted that any measure aimed at combating corruption and increasing the honesty of the testing process is a positive step. However, he stressed that the system must guarantee the assessment of a candidate's actual knowledge of road traffic rules, not their ability to interpret complex or ambiguous questions.
Many young people who contacted AfriForum Youth claim that some questions are ambiguous, forcing them to retake the test multiple times before passing it successfully.
Koster stated that it is crucial to ensure that drivers possess a deep understanding of traffic rules for the benefit of society. Nevertheless, the presumed drop in pass rates raises legitimate questions about whether the current system is achieving its goals without creating obstacles for future drivers. He called for a clear explanation of the reasons for this visible decline, as well as the presentation of measures ensuring the system's fairness, transparency, and accessibility.
In a letter addressed to the minister, AfriForum Youth requested information regarding the update and translation of educational materials, the conduct of an independent investigation into the low pass rate, and whether the wording of certain questions constitutes an unfair barrier for competent candidates.
Koster added that for many young people, a driver's license is the first step toward further education, job searching, and achieving independence. While they welcome increased system integrity, the public also needs assurances that the system is fair, the educational materials are adequate, and candidates are assessed reasonably based on their knowledge of traffic rules.

During the demonstration, police detained activist and political figure Fahad Ahmad. Svara Bhaskar expressed her dissatisfaction with this arrest on social media by posting a video.
Svara Bhaskar shared a video on Instagram showing Mumbai police grabbing Fahad by the collar and taking him away in a police van during the protest. The clip can be heard with Fahad asking the police officers why he is being arrested. It is reported that this video was filmed around 4:30 PM.
By sharing the video, Svara stated that Fahad and other demonstrators were stopped at the Mahim police station. In the caption, she wrote: 'This is Indian democracy. Shameful circumstances.' She specified that the Mumbai police detained Fahad and other protesters on July 20, 2026, at 4:30 PM at Chaitiyabhoomi and transported them to the Mahim police station.
Fahad's video went viral on social media, and his fans are demanding that the police release him. Furthermore, Svara published another video where Fahad is inside police transport commenting on the situation on site. Svara wrote that she received this video from @fahadzirarahmad on July 20 at 4:30 PM and that he asked her to publish it. She added that the Mumbai police are attacking peaceful demonstrators at Chaitiyabhoomi and called on everyone who wishes to support to come to Chaitiyabhoomi peacefully and in large numbers.
