Iran and Tajikistan Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Transport, Transit, and Logistics

The Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ilhom Makhomov, and the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, held a joint visit with the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrishvili. Between July 3 and 4, they closely examined the state of Georgia's transport infrastructure.

Discussion of trade flows

The main topic of discussion was increasing the volume of Uzbekistan's export-import operations conducted through the Georgian route. A group of Uzbek representatives inspected the construction site of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, which is being built in Georgia. The current stages of construction were studied in detail.

Port infrastructure potential

The parties paid close attention to the possibility of Uzbek participation in the creation of this major facility. After completion, the port will be able to serve vessels of all types and will become a key element of international transport corridors, including new China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan railway lines.

Study of logistics zones

The delegation also visited the free industrial zone in Poti to familiarize themselves with the production capacities and activities of existing enterprises. Furthermore, the transit and logistics potential of the Port of Poti was analyzed, and prospects for placing warehouses and terminal facilities for Uzbek cargo were considered. Similar issues of cooperation were discussed during a visit to the Port of Batumi, which has significant potential for developing maritime transport along the Black Sea route.

Future steps for cooperation

In conclusion of the working meetings, representatives exchanged views on expanding partnership in the field of logistics and transport, as well as increasing cargo turnover and implementing mutually beneficial projects. Priority areas for joint activity were determined based on the inspection of the facilities. In the near future, the development of relevant agreements and the formation of a consortium involving Uzbek companies are planned.
