The Iranian U17 national football team arrived in Laos on Saturday to participate in the qualifying matches for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2027.
The young Persians have been placed in Group D alongside the host nation Laos, Jordan, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The team, led by Armaghan Ahmadi, will begin its campaign with a match against Pakistan on November 11 at the Vientiane National Stadium in Laos.
They will then play Sri Lanka on November 14, followed by matches against Jordan and Laos on November 17 and 20, respectively. Only the group winners will advance to the AFC U17 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2027.
The qualification campaign starts on November 8 and involves 35 teams. These teams are divided into seven groups, where each group plays a centralized 'round-robin' format. The qualifiers will run until November 20, after which the seven group winners will proceed to the final tournament scheduled for May 2027.
Nine AFC representatives will also join the final tournament, who qualified automatically through participation in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026: Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
Additionally, 13 countries will be aiming to attend the tournament for the first time: Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Taipei, Guam, Lebanon, Macau, Maldives, Mongolia, Northern Mariana Islands, Palestine, Philippines, and Sri Lanka.
