Film 'Ramayana' faces strong competition from Japanese film 'Godzilla Minus Zero' at the box office

During Diwali, the film 'Ramayana,' released by Namit Malhotra, received positive reviews from most viewers. However, due to the holidays, it faced some difficulties at the box office. Its current revenue does not match its budget, and outside of India, the film also encountered competition.

The competition arose after the Japanese film 'Godzilla Minus Zero' was released in international cinemas on November 5, while 'Ramayana' was shown on November 6. Although Ranbir Kapoor's film started well in American theaters, 'Godzilla' demonstrated a very strong start.

According to data, on its first day of release in the US and Canada, Ranbir Kapoor's film earned $3.5 million, equivalent to approximately 290 million rupees, including revenue from paid previews. Nevertheless, it had to compete with a powerful rival—the Japanese monster film 'Godzilla Minus Zero.'

Deadline estimates that 'Ramayana' might collect around $6 million over the weekend in America. Meanwhile, 'Godzilla Minus Zero' earned $6.7 million solely from paid previews. It is projected that this film could exceed $30 million in its first weekend. While 'Ramayana' tries to solidify its position in North America, 'Godzilla Minus Zero' appears to be the leader among films released this weekend.

This film, directed by Takashi Yamazaki, brought in $6.7 million from previews. On Friday, it collected $13.5 million from 3,254 theaters, including preview revenue. There is speculation that it could earn between $30 and $33 million in its opening weekend. If these forecasts prove true, it will be the biggest opening in the history of distributor GKIDS and may set a new record for an international live-action film in North America.

The film is popular with both audiences and critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it received a 90% critic score and 96% from audiences. This film was created following the success of 'Godzilla Minus One,' which was released in 2023. The previous picture earned $11.4 million in its opening weekend in North America and subsequently collected $57.1 million in the US and $56.9 million in the international market.

These US earnings coincide with the time when 'Ramayana' is also performing well in India and other international markets. According to Sacnilk, the film collected a net income of 48.05 crore rupees on its second day in India. Thus, the total net income of the film in India reached 112.90 crore rupees. The global gross of the film amounted to 221.05 crore rupees. Nevertheless, 'Ramayana' began gaining momentum on Saturday, which is small Diwali. It remains to be seen what total revenue it will collect by the end of the first weekend.

Ramayana film surpassed 100 crore at Dhanteras, but trails Adipurush and Dhurandhar 2

The film Ramayana, directed by Nitish Tiwari, did not achieve the expected massive opening at the box office, yet it still showed good revenue. It set a new record in India among films released before Diwali. However, the true test for the film began on the second day of release.

On the second day, which coincided with the Dhanteras festival, there was a significant drop in earnings. After an impressive first day where all shows were fully booked, the film collected a net income of 64.85 crore rupees in India. Although this amount was somewhat lower considering the large budget and scale of the picture, it allowed the film to enter the top four highest-grossing debuts in Bollywood history.

According to the report from Sakencode, on the second day, which fell on Dhanteras, the collection amounted to only 48.05 crore rupees. Nevertheless, the film's total net collection reached 112.90 crore rupees, and the worldwide gross was 219.80 crore rupees. The Dhanteras and Diwali festivals influenced the revenues, and the creators hope for an increase in collections after Diwali.

The main contribution to the film's box office comes from the Hindi version in India. Despite Yash's participation as Ravana, the Kannada version faced a very slow start. The Kannada version earned only 7.50 crore rupees on the first day, and the pace remained low on the second day, bringing in only 5.15 crore rupees. Meanwhile, the performance of the Telugu version in other languages was good, but the Malayalam and Tamil versions did not bring significant profit to the film.

On the first day, the film Ramayana surpassed premieres such as Pathaan (57 crore rupees), Animal (63 crore rupees), and Drishyam 2 (62 crore rupees). However, the film could not set the record for the biggest debut in Bollywood, which belongs to Dhurandhar 2 starring Ranveer Singh, which collected 102 crore rupees on the first day. Furthermore, Ramayana failed to surpass the opening of the film Adipurush Prabhas.

Adipurush collected 86.75 crore rupees on the first day, and this trend repeated on the second day. By the end of the second day, Adipurush had accumulated 151 crore rupees in net collection in India, whereas Dhurandhar 2, including previews, had already collected over 220 crore rupees in net collection. Consequently, achieving these figures for Ramayana appears unlikely.

Ramayana film shows weak pre-sale figures in India despite popularity in the US

A significant amount of time has passed since the pre-sale of the film 'Ramayana' starring Ranbir Kapoor began, and although the movie generates great interest among viewers, it is not yet showing expected results in terms of ticket sales. In less than 48 hours before its premiere, the film failed to exceed the mark of 400 million rupees in pre-sales in India.

Nevertheless, in pre-sales for the weekend across the world, the film exceeded the sum of 100 million rupees. The creators hope that the positive public reaction will lead to an increase in the film's overall revenue.

According to Sakencilk, by noon on Tuesday, November 3rd, the film had collected 32.59 crore rupees in pre-sales for the first day in India. During this period, 8.16 lakh tickets were sold in 20,159 screenings, with an occupancy rate of 18 percent. Excluding reserved seats, the revenue from first-day pre-sales amounted to 27.34 crore rupees, with 6.80 lakh tickets sold and an occupancy rate of 15 percent. Currently, 50 screenings of the film are completely sold out.

Furthermore, pre-sales for the first four days of screening in India have begun. Over these four days, the film earned a total revenue of 75.56 crore rupees, which amounts to 60.09 crore rupees after excluding reserved seats. During this time, 19.13 lakh tickets were sold in 61,835 screenings, and the overall occupancy rate of the film was 14 percent.

In foreign countries, the pre-sales of 'Ramayana' exceeded 40 million rupees. Overall worldwide, weekend pre-sales reached more than 115 million rupees. North America contributed the most to the total pre-sales. Only through the paid premiere on November 4th did the film earn over 12 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 11.37 crore rupees.

It is also reported that weekend pre-sales for the film in America are estimated at about 3 million dollars, or around 28.45 crore rupees. However, compared to other major films this year, 'Ramayana' lags behind in pre-sale figures. Among these films are 'Dhurandar 2' starring Ranveer Singh, 'Jailer 2' starring Rajinikanth, and 'Toxic' by Yash.

The film 'Dhurandar 2', directed by Aditya Dhar, collected 62.43 crore rupees in first-day pre-sales. 'Jailer 2' by Rajinikanth received first-day pre-sales of 41.48 crore rupees. Meanwhile, the film 'Toxic' by Yash collected 73.43 crore rupees in first-day pre-sales.

Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon Duo Returns with Re-release of 'Mohra' to Counter 'Ramayana'

Ahead of the Diwali festival, the blockbuster 'Ramayana' is expected this year, preparing for its release in the first phase. However, to create direct competition for 'Ramayana,' Akshay Kumar is entering the arena with his hit 'Mohra,' which will be re-released in cinemas.

The popular 90s action film 'Mohra,' starring stars such as Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon, and Sunil Shetty, will be shown in restored 4K format after 32 years. This was announced by Trimurti Films, which also shared a trailer for the film on its official YouTube channel. The creators noted that viewers will once again be able to see the action, thrilling moments, and songs that made this film unforgettable.

The film 'Mohra' was first released on July 1, 1994. Rajiv Rai directed the movie, and Gulshan Rai produced it. In the film, Sunil Shetty played Vishal Agnihotri, Raveena Tandon played Roma Singh, and Akshay Kumar portrayed Inspector Amar Saxena. In addition to the plot and action, the songs from 'Mohra' gained immense popularity.

Songs like 'Tu Chiz Bade Hai Must Must' and 'Tip Tip Barsa Paani' remain very well-known among the public even today. Among other compositions in the film, there were 'Na Kajre Ki Dhar,' 'Subha Se Lekar,' and 'Dil Har Koi.' The duo of Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon created a real sensation on screen in 'Mohra.'

'Mohra' became one of the biggest Hindi films of 1994. That year, it ranked second in box office collections among Indian films after Salman Khan's 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun.' The film's music score also achieved colossal success, with reports stating that over 800 thousand units of the soundtrack were sold.

Now, after 32 years, 'Mohra' is being released in an updated 4K format. This re-release is scheduled for the day after 'Ramayana,' which is November 6th.

The conflict between the films 'Mohra' and 'Ramayana' is a significant event. Although most viewers' attention will likely be focused on Ranbir's film, high ticket prices for 'Ramayana' are worrying many in advance. Furthermore, finding a suitable showtime might be difficult after the premiere.

Under these circumstances, people who cannot watch 'Ramayana' may turn to cinemas to see 'Mohra.' Since cinemas are expected to be crowded, the superhit Akshay may get a chance. Some viewers will also want to experience the wave created by the Akshay-Raveena pair in the 90s. It remains to be seen whether 'Ramayana' will spoil the re-release of 'Mohra' or not.
