Volkswagen has stopped selling its flagship SUV, the Tiguan R Line, in the Indian market. This five-seater premium model was introduced by the company in India last April and was initially supplied as Completely Built Units (CBU).
Although the company has not officially announced the withdrawal of this model from its range, its disappearance from the official Volkswagen India website indicates that sales have ceased. Previously, the Tiguan R Line was offered at a price of approximately 47.11 lakh rupees including export tax.
In the price segment where the Tiguan R Line was positioned, the company also offers the Tayron R Line. This vehicle is larger and considered more practical for the Indian market as it is equipped with three rows of seats. The Tayron R Line is available for 47.74 lakh rupees including export tax and is imported via the CKD route, after which it is assembled locally.
Like the Tiguan R Line, the Tayron R Line features a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which delivers a peak power of 201 hp and a peak torque of 320 Nm. It is paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission. All-wheel drive is standard on the Tiguan R Line.
The interior of the Tiguan R Line includes a 15-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. The model is equipped with three-zone climate control, a panoramic roof, a 9-airbag safety system, and Level 2 ADAS technology. However, ventilated and electric front seats were not included in the configuration.
Following the discontinuation of the Tiguan, Volkswagen's portfolio will retain two crossovers: the Tiguan and the Tayron. The Tiguan is positioned as the company's most affordable SUV, while the Tayron is intended for buyers who prefer a larger and more powerful vehicle.
