Heavy traffic observed in Delhi on Dhanteras: A 5 km trip takes half an hour

In the country's capital, Delhi, extremely heavy traffic conditions are being observed during the Dhanteras festival. Long queues of cars are visible on the streets, and movement is very slow in many places. The situation is such that covering just 5 kilometers can take up to half an hour.

AajTak reporter Aishwarya Paliwal covered the traffic situation in the Nizamuddin area. She reported that Delhi residents are suffering from congestion. Therefore, if someone needs to travel from one place to another, they should allow for an extra travel time of one to one and a half hours compared to the usual time.

Long queues of vehicles from Connaught Place to Khan Market

Besides Nizamuddin, similar traffic situations are observed in areas such as Connaught Place and Khan Market. Motorcycles, cars, taxis, and buses are lined up on the roads. In many places, transport moves extremely slowly, which causes even short distances to take a long time.

Road police officers are also working on the roads, trying to regulate traffic and control the flow. However, due to the large number of vehicles on the roads during the festive season, people are facing difficulties.

Delhi residents are advised to allocate an extra hour or an hour and a half before leaving home to get anywhere. The road situation in all parts of Delhi looks roughly the same, so even short trips may require more time than usual.

Congestion was noticed near Hichhripura around 6:30 PM, when a long queue of vehicles formed on the road.

Heavy traffic observed in Delhi, especially in Anand Vihar and Ghazipur areas during the festive season

Due to the festive season, the road situation in Delhi has become noticeable, with traffic jams slowing down transport not only during the day but also early in the morning. On Friday around 5 am, a large number of vehicles was recorded in the Anand Vihar and Ghazipur areas, leading to long queues and slow vehicle movement.

Earlier, on Thursday evening, serious congestion was also recorded on ITO, Barapullah Bridge, the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, and in Mayur Vihar Phase-1.

Despite the fact that the Delhi police had previously organized special transport measures, their impact was not significantly evident on Friday. Considering the growing number of passengers during the holidays, the Delhi Traffic Police has implemented special traffic regulation measures near Anand Vihar ISBT and other transport hubs from November 5 to 15.

These measures are aimed at managing traffic flows during festivals such as Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath Puja, with the goal of ensuring smooth movement and preventing congestion near intercity bus terminals and railway stations.

According to a notification from the Delhi Traffic Police, the impact is expected on Road No. 56 (Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg) and Road No. 57 (Swami Dayanand Marg). Additionally, traffic diversion will be introduced towards Ramprastha in Ghazipur Golchakkar and Vivek Vihar.

Passengers traveling via NH-24, Sarai Kale Khan, and towards Barapullah are advised to use the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway via GT Road. Those heading to Ghaziabad and Dilshad Garden are also advised to use the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway near Akshardham, traveling along the GT Road.

Parking, waiting, or stopping any type of transport, including buses, TSRs, auto-rickshaws, taxis, and private cars, will be prohibited on both sides of Road No. 56, especially at the entrances and exits of Anand Vihar ISBT and on adjacent streets.

Private car drivers have been advised to use parking spots located on the DDA land near the Maruti Showroom on Kaushambi Road and near NH-24 on Kaushambi Road.

The warning emphasizes that vehicles must not be left unattended on the road or on the carriageway. Legal consequences may follow for illegal parking or creating obstructions, and the vehicle may be towed.

Passengers are recommended to plan their journeys, avoid unnecessary visits to the ISBT area, and use public transport whenever possible.

Heavy traffic jams observed in Delhi and NCR before Diwali due to increased traffic

Amid ongoing purchases in anticipation of Diwali, serious traffic congestion was observed in several places in the capital, Delhi. Due to the large gathering of people heading to markets for festive shopping, residents of some areas were stuck in traffic for several hours.

Long queues of vehicles were spotted on the streets, leading to traffic disruption. For example, a severe traffic jam occurred in the Dhaul Kuwan area of Delhi on Tuesday evening. Video footage that appeared at 21:31 showed a large number of cars on the road.

The cause of these jams is attributed to the increased volume of traffic caused by the rise in the number of buyers due to the holidays. This information is based on initial reports, and further updates are expected.
