As Diwali approaches, e-commerce and quick commerce platforms are witnessing a surge in festive purchases. In addition to daily necessities, consumers are showing increased spending on decorative items, sweets, gold coins, fashion, home appliances, and premium gift sets.
According to data provided by Unicommerce, an e-commerce software provider, the total order volume in the e-commerce sector increased by 21 percent year-on-year during the peak festive season, which ran from October 6 to November 4, 2026, compared to the same period last year.
Quick commerce (qcom) led in growth in both volume and value, recording a 75 percent increase in order volumes and a 38 percent rise in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV). Concurrently, Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) websites reported a 30 percent growth in order volumes and a 26 percent increase in GMV, while marketplaces showed growth of 8 and 6 percent, respectively.
Among qcom platforms, Flipkart Minutes reported a threefold increase in orders between October 30 and November 5, driven by demand for festive goods, home and kitchenware, decor, and gifts. Sales of Diyas grew twelvefold, and orders for home decor increased fivefold; kitchen appliances, including blenders, air fryers, and induction cooktops, grew tenfold. Demand for puja items rose fourfold, and gift items such as perfumes, deodorants, and sets more than doubled.
The qcom platform Swiggy Instamart also noted a sharp rise in festive purchases. Orders for gold coins soared 23 times in the week leading up to Dhanteras, and orders for mithai grew by over 55 percent. Orders for fresh flowers increased by 42 percent, and orders for LED Diyas lamps grew by 88 percent. The 239 percent growth in orders for protein chips indicates a growing demand for new snack categories alongside traditional festive purchases.
Fashion and gifting platforms are also demonstrating strong momentum. Snapdeal's customer base in the fashion segment grew by 73 percent year-on-year during the four-week Diwali period, with Western women's wear showing nearly twofold growth. Pre-orders increased by 130 percent year-on-year, and the number of fashion sellers from emerging cities tripled.
Myntra reported that its direct sales channels and international brands achieved nearly double the order volume compared to regular working days during its Big Fashion Festival. This positive trend continued during Diwali, with key festive fashion categories showing a 1.2-fold year-on-year growth. The quick delivery service M-Now is also showing double-digit order growth.
In light of the festive rush, companies are enhancing personalized gift offerings to capitalize on the demand around Diwali. Tarun Joshi, Founder and CEO of IGP, stated: 'At IGP, we start planning months in advance, tracking emerging gifting trends, understanding changing consumer preferences, and identifying products that are likely to resonate with customers.' The company collaborates closely with packaging partners and ensures the availability of personalized gifts, expecting a 40 percent sales growth this Diwali compared to last year, driven by personal and corporate gifting.
Similarly, SMOOR began preparations for Diwali several months in advance across product development, packaging, manufacturing, and corporate gifting, releasing its festive collection in August. Vimal Sharma, Founder and CEO of SMOOR, noted: 'Corporate gifting has become an area of strong growth. Business generated 22 crore rupees in FY25, and corporate gifting grew by 37 percent year-on-year in Q1 of FY27.'
The broader trend of festive consumption is also reflected in the results of Meesho. The e-commerce platform reported a 33 percent year-on-year growth in net merchandise value over a comparable 90-day period preceding Dussehra, despite changes in festival sale dates. The number of new buyers grew by 16 percent quarter-over-quarter, and the total number of transacting users reached 284 million.
Amazon India also reported its highest ever purchase volume, with volumes increasing by over 50 percent compared to last year during its Great Indian Festival. Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President of Amazon India, stated: 'We were able to provide the highest savings to customers worth over 2,800 crore rupees, attract more new Prime members than any other shopping event, drive record growth for our sellers, and deliver goods with the fastest speed across the country.' The sale will run until Bhai Dooj on November 11.
