Temple device costing 85 thousand rupees: Is it possible to track brain activity with a gadget?

Currently, people are actively using various gadgets, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, to monitor their health by tracking heart rate, sleep, and distance covered. However, it is now being claimed that a small device worn on the forehead can show how blood circulation in the brain is progressing and what the overall state of the brain is.

This gadget is called TEMPLE. It is claimed to be equipped with a feature called 'Entropy Score,' which can indicate the level of mental stress. The gadget has attracted attention due to Dipinder Goel, the founder of the food delivery company Zomato, who presented Temple with these claims. The cost of the device is set at 85 thousand rupees.

Nevertheless, doctors have expressed doubts regarding the technology of the device and its stated characteristics. Therefore, it is important to understand what Temple is and how credible its claims are.

Temple is a compact wearable device that attaches to the forehead. Unlike regular smartwatches, which are limited to displaying data on pulse, sleep, or physical activity, the company claims that Temple is capable of tracking changes related to blood flow and oxygen in the brain, allowing for an assessment of brain health. Goel reported that over 280 million rupees were spent on the development of this project, including $20 million from his own funds. He also noted that a preliminary study on the device will soon be published, followed by additional scientific research so that users can only apply it after receiving complete information.

188 Crore Rupees Investment Does Not Prove Technological Sophistication

The main concern of doctors regarding Temple is the lack of evidence and justification for its claims. Experts emphasize that spending huge sums of money on developing technology and scientifically confirming it are two different processes, and not all statements made about this device may be true.

Currently, the company positions Temple not as a medical diagnostic tool, but as a wellness and research product. Consequently, treatment decisions cannot be made or diseases diagnosed based on data obtained from this device. Doctors share this concern, pointing out that claims about the device's accuracy cannot be considered fully reliable until all necessary scientific checks have been conducted.

Neurologist Dr. Rahul Chawla also raised the issue of the scientific basis underlying this device in an interview with India Today. He stated that currently, nothing definitive can be said about the claims regarding Temple. The manufacturing company has not yet disclosed what clinical trials it is conducting. Additional research and more information about this device are currently required.

Dipinder Goyal refutes fraud allegations against TEMPLE device in response to doctors

Co-founder of Zomato, Dipinder Goyal, is preparing for the launch of the TEMPLE device, for which pre-registration has already begun, with delivery expected soon. Recently, the TEMPLE device has become a subject of controversy, and Goyal issued a statement asserting that it is not a scam.

Some doctors have classified TEMPLE as major medical fraud and health deception. However, Dipinder Goyal rejected these claims, emphasizing that the device was developed at a cost of 188 million rupees.

Goyal stated that he spent 20 million US dollars (equivalent to approximately 188 million rupees) on creating this product. He responded to Indian doctors via the X platform, stating that about 30 million dollars were spent on the device's development, of which 20 million were his personal funds.

He added that if TEMPLE were a scam or if people were making big claims about it, those conducting tests would have noticed within a few days.

Furthermore, Goyal assured that the company offers a 14-day money-back guarantee without questions asked; if TEMPLE does not work, it will be returned from the start. He also stressed that his project is not aimed at quick profit, referencing his CEO's post.

TEMPLE is a device resembling a pea that is attached near the head, specifically on the temple. The company claims that TEMPLE tracks changes in blood flow in the brain and entropy. According to the TEMPLE portal, entropy refers to how much effort the body exerts to cool down and dissipate heat.

Many doctors have questioned TEMPLE's ability to actually track blood flow in the brain. One of the most vocal critics is hepatologist Dr. Sayrik AB Phillips, also known as 'The Liver Doc,' who labeled TEMPLE as serious medical fraud and health deception.

In response to the criticism, Goyal mentioned the WHOOP fitness tracker, noting that the company released its fitness tracker in 2015 and faced similar questions, but it is now popular worldwide.

Company introduces Temple device for brain activity tracking in India; priced at 85 thousand rupees

Dipinder Goel, founder of the food delivery company Zomato, introduced a new gadget called Temple in India. This specialized device is designed to monitor a person's health status and brain activity.

Pre-orders for this device have now begun in India. Those considering a purchase should be aware of its features and cost. Temple differs from standard fitness trackers or smartwatches because it is specifically designed to track blood flow in the brain and related signals.

The device attaches to the side of the head, between the forehead and the ear. It is equipped with optical sensors that record changes in cerebral blood circulation. The company calls this technology BrainFlow.

Key Features of Temple

This device also incorporates a feature called Entropy Score, which displays a metric from 1 to 250. Using this score, the user can assess the level of stress experienced by the body. It takes into account factors such as sleep, physical exercise, stress, and caffeine consumption.

Temple does not require a strap to be worn on the head; it is secured using special adhesive strips called Grips. According to the company, it can be worn while running, swimming, and showering. The gadget is also designed with the needs of people who wear glasses in mind.

Cost and Ordering Process

The price of Temple in India is set at 85,000 rupees and includes a lifetime subscription. Pre-sales in India will open on November 1st at 21:30. Users can place an order through the Temple app or on the official website temple.com.

The company states that each device will be manufactured after receiving an order, so the delivery time may take about three months. However, users have the option to request a refund before the device is shipped. Temple is available in six color options: True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue, and Purple Funk.

It is important to note that Temple is not positioned as a medical device for diagnosing diseases. It is intended for wellness and research purposes, distinguishing it from smartwatches, and potential buyers must thoroughly study its capabilities and methods of use before purchasing.
