Producer Namit Malhotra's son played young Ravana in the film 'Ramayana'

'Ramayana' is receiving a huge audience response in theaters since its release. Viewers highly praise Ranbir Kapoor's performance as Lord Rama, as well as Yash's formidable portrayal of Ravana. However, another actor playing the young Ravana has also captured the audience's attention.

Until now, the public knew that Yash was playing the role of Ravana. But when footage of the young Ravana appeared, interest arose in the actor's identity. Reports indicate that this role was played by Raghav Malhotra, who is the son of film producer Namit Malhotra. Notably, Raghav is not an established actor.

Raghav Malhotra is the elder son of film creator Namit Malhotra. While the main cast of 'Ramayana' has long been in the spotlight, Raghav has remained out of the media glare. Little is known about his acting career to the public, but the role of Ravana has suddenly made him a subject of discussion.

It is reported that Raghav's Instagram account is private. He rarely appears on social media, although he has occasionally been seen at events with his father. Namit has two sons: Raghav, also known as Elton Malhotra, and Raghavbir Malhotra. His participation in the film has increased public curiosity about him.

The reason for choosing Raghav for the role of young Ravana was cited as his physical appearance. According to reports, his looks and physique are very similar to Yash's. This is why he looks like a younger version of Yash on screen. Raghav's resemblance to Yash is so great that he sometimes resembles a double. This similarity likely played an important role in the selection of the actor for the role of young Ravana.

Nevertheless, there is no official information from the creators regarding Raghav's casting. Therefore, the assumption that his selection was based on his resemblance to Yash is based solely on media reports. After this information surfaced, users began criticizing the producer, claiming that only 'nepo babies' were involved in the film.

According to sources, Raghav had the opportunity to observe major film projects from an early age. Since his father, Namit Malhotra, is a prominent film producer, he gained insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of the film industry. It is also claimed that Raghav underwent training in preparation for the film 'Ramayana'. He worked on facial expressions, movements, and body language appropriate to the character's image. To embody the image of young Ravana, it was not enough just to look like Yash; he needed to convey Ravana's power, ambition, and seriousness on screen.

There is currently no official data on what specific or additional training Raghav received for this role. Nevertheless, his presence has attracted the attention of viewers.

In the film, Raghav is presented as young Ravana, alongside Shobhna, who plays Ravana's mother, Kaikasi. Kaikasi holds an extremely significant place in Ravana's life. She is depicted as a mother guiding her son's ambitions and power. Thus, through the image of young Ravana, viewers are given a glimpse into the early moments of his life and the unfolding of his personality.

'Ramayana' was created by Namit Malhotra in collaboration with Prime Focus Studios, DNEG, and with support from Yash's Monster Mind Creations. The total budget for both parts of the film is estimated at approximately 4000 crore rupees. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor (Lord Rama), Sai Pallavi (Sita), and Yash (Ravana). In addition to them, important roles were given to Ravi Dubey, Indire Krishna, Arun Govil, Lara Datta, Rakul Prit Singh, Vivek Oberoi, and Kanul Kapoor. The first part hinted at the appearance of a second episode. Reports suggest that the second part of 'Ramayana' will be released in December 2028.

Actor Vivek Oberoi plays the role of Vidyutjiva, Shurpanakha's husband, in the film 'Ramayana'

The film 'Ramayana,' starring Ranbir Kapoor, was released in theaters on November 5, 2026, generating widespread interest in its characters. Although the story of Ravana, Sita, and Lord Rama is well-known to everyone, there are many less discussed figures from this epic, such as Vidyutjiva, who is played by Vivek Oberoi.

Vidyutjiva is a character little known to the general public but has a close connection to Ravana's family. According to mythological traditions, he was the husband of Shurpanakha, Ravana's sister. Interestingly, these same traditions state that Ravana himself was the cause of Vidyutjiva's death. The following is a narrative about who Vidyutjiva is, why conflict arose with Ravana, and how his death changed Shurpanakha's life.

According to ancient tales, Vidyutjiva was a powerful warrior Asura. His origins are linked to the Asura clan of Kalakeya. In some versions, he is mentioned as the commander-in-chief of King Kalakeya's army. He was strong and skilled in warfare.

In addition to his status as a warrior, Vidyutjiva had deep ties to Ravana's family because he married Shurpanakha, Ravana's sister. Some narratives claim that Shurpanakha and Vidyutjiva felt mutual affection, leading them to enter into a Gandharva marriage. However, Ravana disapproved of his sister marrying him.

According to the stories, Ravana did not approve of his sister's marriage to Vidyutjiva. The reason cited was the feud between them and their affiliation with different sides. Vidyutjiva was associated with the Asuras of Kalakeya, while Ravana was focused on strengthening his own power and might.

Some beliefs suggest that disagreements existed between Ravana and Vidyutjiva even before the marriage. Thus, Shurpanakha's marriage to him was unacceptable to Ravana. Nevertheless, various versions of the Ramayana and folk legends contain contradictory information about these relationships.

The story of Vidyutjiva's death is quite intriguing. According to mythology, Ravana once embarked on a campaign to conquer the world, expanding his power by subjugating various kingdoms and worlds. During this campaign, he encountered Vidyutjiva.

It is said that Ravana asked Vidyutjiva to join him, but he refused. Following this, a fierce battle erupted between them, resulting in Vidyutjiva's death.

When Shurpanakha learned of her husband's death, she was devastated. She was deeply shocked and grieved that her happiness was destroyed because of her own brother, Ravana. After this, love and respect for Ravana in her heart turned into anger and hatred.

In some folk tales, Shurpanakha's anger towards Ravana over the loss of her husband is named the greatest trauma of her life. She held Ravana responsible for her husband's death. However, she understood that direct confrontation with Ravana would be extremely difficult.

When she learned of the exploits of Lord Rama, she felt that only Shri Rama could challenge Ravana. This is why, in some depictions, Shurpanakha's meeting with Rama and Lakshmana is seen as a consequence of her accumulated desire for revenge.

There is a widely circulated story of the Ramayana according to which Shurpanakha once found herself in the Panchavati forest. There, she met Lord Rama and was captivated by his appearance and personality, expressing a desire to marry him. However, Lord Rama, stating his devotion to Mother Sita, directed her to Lakshmana.

Lakshmana also refused her. This enraged Shurpanakha, and she attempted to harm Mother Sita. Lakshmana stopped her and cut off her nose. After this, Shurpanakha felt humiliated and angrily went to Ravana. She incited Ravana and persuaded him to abduct Mother Sita. Ravana abducted Sita, after which a war broke out between Lord Rama and Ravana, ending with Ravana's demise.

In the main storyline of the Ramayana, the reason for Ravana's downfall was the abduction of Mother Sita and the subsequent battle with Lord Rama. Nevertheless, some folk beliefs link this chain of events to the death of Vidyutjiva.

According to these traditions, Shurpanakha's anger over her husband's death put her in opposition to Ravana. Because of this, she became an important link in the conflict between Lord Rama and Ravana. It is important to note that the story of Vidyutjiva's death and Shurpanakha's quest for revenge are not the same in all versions of the Ramayana.
