The ninth Curta Caicó Festival kicks off on Tuesday (the 27th) with a free cultural program featuring film screenings and educational events across eight municipalities in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The festival will run until Sunday (November 1st) and will take place in cities such as Caicó, Bode, São Vicente, Kurais-Novos, Lagoa Nova, Cerro Cora, Jucurutu, and Parelas.
Having been held since 2018, the ninth edition of the festival includes works from various regions of Brazil, distributed between competitive and parallel screenings. The program also features special sessions at the campuses of the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN), as well as events dedicated to the study and discussion of audiovisual art.
Planned events include the screening of Sesc de Cinema in Kurais-Novos and Caicó, the second edition of the Northeast Audiovisual Arts Forum, and the Expo Boi de Prata exhibition, which will showcase previously unpublished behind-the-scenes photographs from the film 'Boi de Prata' taken by Walter Carvalho. This exhibition begins on Saturday (the 31st) in the Grand Hall of the Caicó Department of Culture.
On Sunday (the 1st), there will be a premiere of four short films created by young participants of the 5th Curta Caicó Screenwriting Lab. The festival will conclude with a tribute to actress Titina Medeiros, who is considered the patroness of the festival.
The awards ceremony will be attended by Titina Medeiros' family and husband, actor César Ferrario, and will include the screening of the film 'Titina, Alma Livre,' directed by Carito Cavalcanti and Fernando Suassun, as well as the presentation of prizes to the winners.
The ninth Curta Caicó is a product of the Referência Agency, sponsored by Neoenergia Cosern, Instituto Neoenergia, and Sesc through the Fecomércio system. The event is also supported by BNB Cultural, the Rio Grande do Norte Culture Committee, Místika, the Rio Grande do Norte Film Critics Association (ACCIRN), InterTV Cabugi, and Urbano Norte.
