A substantial fall in the prices of gold and silver occurred on the occasion of the Dhanteras festival. Prices for both metals decreased in the commodity market.
The MCX Gold Future contract fell from 2428 rupees per 10 grams to 141,667 rupees.
A similar decline was recorded in silver prices. According to data on the December silver futures contract, the price dropped from 3100 rupees to 184,050 rupees per kilogram.
This previous rise in gold and silver prices was observed against the backdrop of rising prices for Brent Crude Oil. Crude oil increased by 2 percent, trading at $100 per barrel.
On the international market, the price of gold fell by 1.46 percent, reaching $4053.8 per ounce. The price of silver also dropped by 1.70 percent, amounting to $51.485 per ounce.
In Delhi, the cost of 24-karat gold is 146,180 rupees, and 22-karat is 134,010 rupees; the price for 18-karat gold is 109,680 rupees. Local silver is sold at 210,100 rupees per kilogram. A slight increase in gold and silver prices was noted here.
The main reason for the decrease in gold and silver prices is the strengthening of crude oil prices. The rise in oil prices led to an acceleration of the dollar index, while the rupee showed a depreciation. Under such conditions, the prices of assets considered safe investments, such as gold and silver, fall.
On the MCX exchange, the record high for silver was 4.20 lakh rupees, but today it reached 1.84 lakh rupees, which means a drop of 2.36 lakh rupees per kilogram. As for gold, its record high was 1.93 lakh rupees, which has now fallen by 52 thousand rupees to reach 1.41 lakh rupees.
