As the festive season approaches, people often start buying new clothes and shoes, but it is not always necessary to purchase new outfits for Diwali celebrations. It is possible to create a fresh look by using old items from the wardrobe. An old saree stored in a closet can give a completely different appearance if the way it is worn and styled is changed.
Recently, Bollywood actress Sharvari Wag did something similar. While promoting her film 'Ye Prem Mol Liya', she appeared in her mother's vintage saree. However, the way she styled it looked no worse than an outfit from a new designer.
Sharvari's look is particularly interesting for women who want to wear something traditional for Diwali but prefer a modern touch in their attire. Many ideas for styling can be drawn from her saree.
Sharvari wore a Patola saree in shades of maroon and dark pink, adorned with a traditional Ikat pattern. Notably, this saree belonged to her mother. To give the saree a new look, gold embroidery, decorative borders, and small mirror elements were added.
The combination of the saree's traditional colors and design with gold details gave it a festive look. Furthermore, the way the pallu was draped, wrapped around the waist with one side left open, distinguished it from an ordinary saree.
Instead of wearing a blouse matching the saree, Sharvari chose a simple dark purple corset blouse. It was decorated with gold embroidery, floral motifs, pearls, and metallic elements. If you want to modernize your old saree, you can try pairing it with a corset, off-the-shoulder, or simple blouse.
To complete the old saree look, jewelry plays an important role; therefore, Sharvari used gold ornaments. She wore a massive crescent-shaped necklace, matching earrings, accent rings, and pink bangles. The makeup was subtle, and her hair was worn down with a center parting.
- Corset Blouse Style: If you have a Banarasi, Patola, or silk saree from your mother, you can order a corset blouse. This will instantly give the traditional saree a modern look.
- Changing the Pallu Draping Method: You don't always have to keep the pallu on the shoulder. You can wrap it around the waist or use a belt to create a different style.
- Pairing Saree with a Contrasting Blouse: Instead of choosing a blouse in the same color, try a color that complements or contrasts completely with the saree. For example, a purple blouse suits a pink saree, gold suits a green one, and black suits a red one.
- Styling with a Belt and Modern Jewelry: A belt or designer belt can be added to an old saree. Additionally, a choker, large earrings, or a statement necklace can add a new accent to the look.
- Wearing as a Lehenga or Skirt: If you are tired of wearing the saree in the same way, you can drape it in a lehenga style. To create a new festive look, you can pair it with a short kurti, crop top, or long jacket.
