After a long wait, the results of the student council elections, which had been pending for eight years, were announced at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh. Historian-researcher Noman Ashraf won the presidency, and student engineer Mohammad Hamdan Mand was elected as secretary.
Furthermore, law student Nashra Naim achieved a historic milestone by becoming the vice-president. The voting took place on November 5th across 13 campus locations, and the results of the vote counting, which continued all night at the ABK school, were announced on the morning of November 6th.
The AMU student council elections marked the first time that a woman held one of the three key positions—president, vice-president, or secretary. Nashra Naim, a law student, went through a very intense campaign against Sakiba Ali Khan. In the final stage of vote counting, Nashra gained a decisive advantage and secured a historic victory. She called this victory a triumph for the entire student community, noting that it is the beginning of a new idea that she hopes will continue in the future.
In the presidential election, Noman Ashraf received an overwhelming majority of votes, defeating his closest rival Mohammad Antakhab by a margin of 4121 votes. Noman Ashraf garnered a total of 7797 votes. As soon as the victory became clear in the final stage of counting, his supporters began celebrating on the AMU campus with fireworks and loud slogans.
According to information from the official list of AMU candidates, Mohammad Noman Ashraf is a third-year postgraduate student in the university's history department. He ran for the presidency in the AMU 2026-27 elections and succeeded. In campus political life, Noman is known as a committed orator and researcher who advocates for students' rights.
