Emami's net profit fell by 2.8% to 144 crore rupees, while revenue grew by 36.2%

FMCG company Emami published its report for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027 (Q2FY27), showing a 36.2% increase in revenue due to strong domestic growth, although net profit decreased by 2.8%.

The consolidated net profit attributable to the owners of the company amounted to 144.16 crore rupees, which is 2.8% lower compared to the same period last year. This decrease was largely due to the normalization of the effective tax rate after the cancellation of fiscal benefits associated with the company's manufacturing unit in Assam.

Profit Before Tax (PBT) increased by 28.9% year-on-year, reaching 193.62 crore rupees. Consolidated operating revenue in Q2FY27 grew by 36.2% year-on-year, reaching 1,087.65 crore rupees, resulting from confident development of the domestic business.

Compared to the previous period, revenue increased by 4.7%, and net profit grew by 5%. Harsh V Agarwal, Vice President and Managing Director of Emami Limited, noted that the company demonstrated another quarter of strong growth, with revenue growing by 36% and domestic business by 49%.

He added that the high efficiency of core brands combined with the rapid expansion of the strategic investment portfolio, which now accounts for about 26% of the domestic business, strengthens the strategy of building multiple growth engines for the future and expanding presence in changing consumer segments.

International business income showed a decline of 2% due to external disruptions in some international markets. Nevertheless, this segment grew by 6%, excluding Nepal and Iraq.

Emami Ltd reports 36.2% revenue growth and net profit decline in the quarter due to rising costs

Emami Ltd, based in Kolkata, published its results report for the second quarter of the fiscal year 27. During this period, the company demonstrated a 36.2% growth in operating revenue compared to the previous year, reaching INR 1,087.65 crore.

Nevertheless, the net profit after tax (PAT) decreased slightly by 1.92% to INR 145.50 crore in the September quarter of FY27. Previously, in the same period last year, PAT was INR 148.35 crore.

The company's report indicated that the decrease in net profit was mainly due to the normalization of the effective tax rate after the cessation of fiscal benefits, as well as increased raw material costs. Meanwhile, EBITDA increased by 25%, reaching INR 222 crore, and profit before tax grew by 29% to INR 194 crore.

Total expenses in the September quarter of FY27 amounted to INR 865.33 crore, which is 39.57% higher than in the previous quarter.

Business Progress

During the quarter, Emami's domestic business grew by 49%, supported by a 43% increase in volume. However, when looking at comparable figures, excluding data from Axiom Ayurveda and IncNut Digital from the previous period, consolidated revenue increased by 24%, and domestic business grew by 32% with a 26% increase in volume.

The company's international markets reported a 2% decline in revenue due to significant external disruptions in certain regions. Total income, including other receipts, grew by 35.45% to INR 1,110.60 crore in the second quarter of FY27. For the period from April to September FY27, total income increased by 24.21% to INR 2,168.31 crore.

The company noted that, building on the momentum of the first quarter, it achieved another quarter of double-digit growth across a wide range of segments, driven by strong performance from both core brands and strategic investments. These results reflect the company's continuous progress in building a more diversified and future-ready consumer goods portfolio.

The operating environment was challenging, marked by renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, floods in Nepal, persistent inflationary pressure on various goods, and insufficient rainfall in parts of the country.

Despite this, demand remained stable, and the company's diversified portfolio, improved execution, and rapid scaling of new growth engines allowed it to achieve strong financial results. Furthermore, Emami completed a share buyback worth INR 281.24 crore in this quarter.

Vice President and Managing Director Harsha V Agarwal stated that the high efficiency of core brands combined with the rapid expansion of the strategic investment portfolio, which now accounts for about 26% of the domestic business, strengthens the strategy of building multiple growth engines for the future and expanding presence in changing consumer segments.

In a separate filing, Emami informed the board of directors that the board approved the first interim dividend of INR 5 per share with a face value of INR 1 fully paid up for the financial year 2026-27. Emami Ltd shares traded at INR 389.35 on the BSE on Thursday, which was 2.02% higher than the previous day's close.

Maruti Suzuki India's net profit fell by 26.36% in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027

Automotive market leader, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, reported on Tuesday a 26.36% decline in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter ending in September. The profit amounted to 2,466.1 crore rupees. This decrease occurred despite revenue growth, which was driven by record car sales volumes during the quarter; however, it was caused by increased raw material costs linked to the Middle East conflict.

According to regulatory filings, the company recorded a net profit of 3,349 crore rupees in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. For the period from July to September, total operating revenue increased to 53,355.5 crore rupees compared to 42,344.2 crore rupees in the same period of the 2025-26 fiscal year, as stated in the company's reports.

Total expenses for July-September also rose to 50,619 crore rupees compared to 39,018.4 crore rupees a year earlier. Furthermore, the cost of materials consumed in the second quarter grew to 37,488.5 crore rupees from 25,324.2 crore rupees in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

Financial Performance Details

In its statement, Maruti Suzuki India specified that the operating profit (EBIT) for this quarter reached 2,803.7 crore rupees, whereas it was 3,382 crore rupees in Q2 FY25-26. This reduction is attributed to rising raw material prices due to the Middle East conflict. Nevertheless, compared to Q1 FY26-27, there was a consistent growth of 10.8%. However, non-operating income sharply decreased in the second quarter due to losses from investment surplus valuation.

The company announced achieving an all-time high quarterly sales volume of 696,654 units, representing a 26.5% increase compared to the same period last year. The company's growth in the domestic passenger vehicle market was extensive: small car sales increased by 35.9%, and SUV sales increased by 68.2%. Newly launched company SUVs received a strong market response, contributing to such sustained growth.

Maruti Suzuki India reported that its domestic market share increased by 2.2 percentage points, reaching 40.8%. The company noted that the recent increase in production capacity allowed it to meet high demand. Despite the expansion of production capabilities, demand continued to outstrip supply, leading to a low network inventory of about 17 days and pending bookings of approximately 200,000 units by the end of the quarter.

In export markets, despite the complex geopolitical situation, the company managed to ship 108,119 units in Q2 FY 2026-27, compared to 110,487 units in Q2 FY25-26.
