AI-based cyberattacks threaten Indian fintech companies; Shiprocket achieves profitability in Q2 FY2027

Investment interest in the Indian B2C e-commerce sector appears to be declining. According to Tracxn data, funding volume dropped by 33% to $1.6 billion across 356 rounds between January and November 3, 2026, compared to $2.4 billion across 621 rounds the previous year. Meanwhile, late-stage and seed-stage investments decreased by 51% and 50% respectively, while early-stage investments remained relatively stable, showing a 3% growth.

Parallel to investor caution, the AI infrastructure boom is facing another issue—growing public concern over its impact on local communities. OpenAI has committed to covering the full electricity costs of the data centers it owns and operates, and has also pledged to increase transparency regarding construction plans and public consultations.

Meanwhile, India's national cybersecurity agency, CERT-In, warned about increasing AI-driven attacks targeting fintech companies and NBFCs. Attackers are using payment systems to steal funds.

Cybersecurity issues are also observed in the global financial services sector. The Binance exchange revoked all API keys associated with the third-party trading platform SignalPlus after reporting a potential security issue. The exchange assured that its own systems and user funds remain secure and advised affected users to check their trading positions before reconnecting.

Risks are spreading beyond financial services. A cyberattack targeting refrigeration management systems at three facilities belonging to the French National Blood Service led to an increase in the storage temperature of plasma and other blood products. Monitoring systems detected the breach in a timely manner, allowing staff to relocate supplies before the products were compromised. An investigation into this incident is currently underway.

PFRDA launches simplified NPS Tatkal scheme for pension savings accumulation

For low-income individuals, such as gig economy workers, couriers, freelancers, and those in the informal sector who struggle to save large sums regularly, the Pension Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is preparing to expand its digital capabilities.

The NPS Tatkal service will allow users to open a pension account in just three clicks using bank KYC data and make small contributions, such as 10 rupees via UPI.

These details were announced by PFRDA Chairman, S. Raman, during the 'Leadership Event on NPS Tatkal' in Mumbai. The goal of this initiative is to simplify the process of opening and topping up pension accounts so that low-income individuals can build retirement capital by saving small amounts. The regulator aims to attract 4–5 million new NPS customers over the next two to three years. Furthermore, PFRDA has set a target of reaching a pension corpus of 100 trillion rupees by 2040, significantly earlier than planned.

The primary objective of NPS Tatkal is to make the pension account opening process fast and simple. Unlike previous procedures that required filling out extensive data, the new feature utilizes existing client KYC records held by the bank. This eliminates the need for the user to repeatedly enter personal information. According to the PFRDA Chairman, the entire registration process can take about 10 seconds, following the 'NPS in three clicks' principle. Existing banking and UPI systems are used, which removes the need for complex additional procedures to connect to the pension account. The exact launch date for NPS Tatkal has not yet been announced.

A key advantage of NPS Tatkal is the ability to save with small amounts. Customers can contribute 10 rupees daily or even hourly to their NPS account via UPI, entirely at their discretion. For instance, if a person contributes 10 rupees daily, 300 rupees will accumulate in their account over 30 days. Thus, even regular small contributions allow one to start pension savings. However, it is important to note the distinction: 10 rupees is the minimum contribution, whereas opening an NPS account requires a minimum deposit of 250 rupees. There is currently no transaction fee charged within NPS, so small top-ups will not be burdened with extra charges.

PFRDA pays special attention to citizens whose income fluctuates monthly. This includes couriers, taxi drivers, freelancers, and informal sector workers. It can be difficult for them to set aside a fixed amount every month. When income is high, saving can be hindered by expenses and needs. The proposal of a daily contribution of 10 rupees may help them begin pension savings. PFRDA Chairman, S. Raman, stated that efforts are being made to make NPS the most accessible savings option for informal sector workers, couriers, and gig economy workers. He believes that the simplicity of making contributions and the ability to contribute according to one's own schedule can promote a saving habit.

Thanks to NPS Tatkal, banks will also be able to attract new customers. Banks will receive a registration fee of 100 rupees for each new account, as well as an annual commission of 0.2 percent of the funds held in the account. To illustrate, if a fund of 1 lakh rupees is in an NPS account, the annual commission will be around 200 rupees. PFRDA notes that because clients remain with the pension account for a long time, this allows banks to build long-term relationships with clients. The PFRDA Chairman called NPS one of the cheapest retirement products in the world, stating that the total commission is 0.2 percent of Assets Under Management (AUM) annually, which limits investment costs in this scheme.

The PFRDA Chairman also emphasized the need to increase pension coverage in the country. According to his data, India's workforce numbers around 600 million, while the total number of subscribers in the National Pension System (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is approximately 100 million. This means that, on average, only one in six workers is enrolled in these two pension schemes. Approximately 1.5 million government and 1 million non-government subscribers are registered in NPS. PFRDA believes that the potential for joining pension programs in the country is very high. The regulator expects that thanks to digital capabilities like NPS Tatkal, another 4–5 million new customers will join in the next two to three years. PFRDA Chairman Raman stated that his goal is to transform India into a 'pension society.'

DLF invests 375 billion rupees in joint venture with Everstone to acquire stake in IREO India

DLF Limited, the largest market capitalization real estate company in India, and Singaporean investment manager Everstone Group have signed a binding and exclusive memorandum of understanding to create a joint venture (JV). The JV aims to invest in IREO Private Limited and other group companies in India.

According to the agreement dated November 6, 2026, DLF plans to invest approximately 375 billion rupees to gain a controlling stake in the JV. Ashok Kumar Tyagi, Managing Director of DLF, stated that he is pleased with the collaboration with Everstone Group, as combining strong industry experience with global investment opportunities will help unlock the growth potential of IREO India companies.

The parties also entered into a separate binding and exclusive memorandum of understanding with IREO Funds on the same date. Under this arrangement, the JV intends to acquire at least 20 percent of the shares in IREO India companies, as well as obtain certain management rights.

The total economic interest of the JV in these companies, including contractual and other interests, will amount to about 40 percent, with the remaining stake belonging to IREO Funds. The companies reported that this deal opens up opportunities for project implementation in Delhi, Gurgaon, and other regions.

After the transaction is completed, IREO India companies will be managed by a strong, independent team of executives who will implement the agreed business plan within a robust governance system under the guidance of DLF and Everstone. The main objective, according to the statement, is to restore momentum and build a stronger business. The statement does not specify whether the proposed projects will be residential or commercial.

The transaction remains subject to standard closing conditions, including satisfactory completion of due diligence, corporate, regulatory, and third-party approvals, as well as the signing of final agreements. Closing is expected within 2027.

Samir Jain, Co-founder and CEO of Everstone Group, noted that partnering with DLF is a privilege for them, especially given their vast market capabilities which they understand well. He added that, in accordance with their fiduciary duties, they strive to work diligently and create significant value for IREO Funds investors.

Previously, DLF collaborated with Hines, based in the USA, to develop commercial projects through a joint venture. However, this partnership with Everstone involves investing in existing land-owning companies with development potential, rather than co-developing a specific project.

Experts advise investors to determine the optimal share of gold and silver in their portfolio for the Dhanteras festival

As households across India celebrate the Dhanteras festival on Friday, November 6th, by purchasing gold and silver, financial specialists recommend that investors look beyond this auspicious occasion and consider the role of precious metals in their overall investment portfolio.

After an unusual rally followed by sharp corrections in 2026, the question is no longer whether to buy gold or silver, but how much to hold, when to enter the market, and whether both metals deserve equal footing in an investment portfolio.

The general advice is to view gold as a portfolio hedge rather than a short-term bet, to avoid buying large amounts solely because of Dhanteras, and to exercise greater caution regarding silver, which is more volatile and dependent on industrial demand.

Differences in Demand for Precious Metals

Vikas Gupta, CEO and Strategist at OmniScience Capital, distinguishes between two types of demand for precious metals in India: purchases driven by cultural events and weddings, and investment demand, which depends on price movements.

He noted that there are two types of demand for gold and silver in India. The first is inelastic demand, which arises during Dhanteras and other festivals, as well as wedding season. A certain minimum volume of gold is required for a wedding, depending on socio-economic and cultural groups. The second is elastic demand, related to price changes and speculation about the price direction.

Gupta predicts that purchase volumes during Dhanteras will remain stable or increase, while demand during the wedding season may be slightly stronger. He added that the sharp rise in gold prices, followed by a correction, might make buyers feel they can afford more gold when comparing current prices to the previous peak. 'Gold as an investment continues to be preferred by Indians,' he stated.

Asset Allocation Recommendations

However, festive purchases should not automatically lead to an increase in the proportion of precious metals in a portfolio for investors. Ashish Rajodia, Head of Commodities at PL Capital, believes that allocating around 5-10% of the total portfolio to gold and 2-3% to silver suits most investors. Since silver is more volatile and also depends on industrial demand, it should constitute a smaller portion. Both metals have risen significantly over the past year, so the question is not whether to buy, but how. Instead of making a lump-sum purchase during Dhanteras, investors can spread purchases over several weeks through gold ETFs or coins, and top up during dips to average the entry price. Those who have already reached their target allocation do not necessarily need to buy more, while those below it can build their position in tranches.

Investors whose allocation is below the desired level can consider increasing exposure in tranches instead of a large purchase during Dhanteras. Gold Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) offer one path to financial participation, while coins and bars provide physical ownership. Those who already have the desired allocation do not need to buy more just because it is an auspicious day.

Caution Regarding Silver Volatility

The sharp volatility of silver requires special caution. Prasanjit Paul, Fund Manager at 129 Wealth and Research Analyst at Paul Asset, noted that the recent recovery in silver prices should not be taken as the start of a new bull market. He emphasized that silver is still in a broader downtrend, and the recent recovery looks more like a technical rebound after prices entered oversold territory. Such rebounds are normal after a sharp fall and do not signify the start of a new bull cycle.

Paul pointed to the global drop of the metal by 18.6 percent in October as evidence of how quickly sentiment can change after a sharp rise. 'We maintain a bearish outlook on silver in the short term and do not recommend chasing the current rebound,' he said. Those with real future needs for jewelry or gifts can gradually buy during larger dips, but investors putting in new funds may wait for greater price stability.

Silver prospects are also linked to expectations for global interest rates, the US dollar, and industrial needs. A stronger dollar and higher US Treasury yields usually negatively affect silver, as the metal does not generate income. Although demand from solar panels, electric vehicles, electronics, and data centers provides long-term support, Paul mentioned expectations of slowing industrial production in 2026, partly due to reduced use of silver in solar panels.

Long-Term View on Precious Metals

Meanwhile, Motilal Oswal Financial Services maintains a constructive long-term view on precious metals despite short-term volatility. In its latest quarterly report on precious metals titled 'Gold Rally: Deferred, Not Missed,' it states that corrections can provide opportunities for disciplined accumulation. The report notes that gold reached nearly $5600 per ounce in January 2026 before falling below $4000 and then recovering. Silver rose above $100 per ounce before undergoing a sharper correction.

Navneet Damani, Head of Commodity Research at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, noted that gold continues to serve as a defensive asset amid global economic and geopolitical uncertainty. However, its short-term direction will remain sensitive to US Federal Reserve policy, inflation, the dollar, and real bond yields. 'In India, higher prices have moderated discretionary jewelry demand, although wedding-related purchases and investment demand remained relatively resilient,' he said.

The brokerage firm recommends a 'buy the dip' approach for gold, setting an international accumulation zone of $3800-$3900 per ounce, a short-term target of $4200, and a medium-term target of $4500-$4700. In the domestic market, based on the USD to INR exchange rate of 96, they see ₹135,000 for 10 grams as a favorable accumulation zone, with a short-term target of ₹148,000 and a medium-term target of ₹160,000-₹168,000.

These broker estimates are market assumptions, not guaranteed price levels or returns. Investors should also consider currency fluctuations, taxes, manufacturing charges, and the difference between physical gold prices and financial product prices when assessing their returns.

Manav Modi, Commodity Analyst at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, stated that silver may offer greater growth potential than gold but comes with significantly higher volatility. The firm's overall view is that investors should accumulate during corrections, not chase price momentum. 'The next inflection point for gold may occur when real yields stop rising, especially if persistent inflation, fiscal issues, or economic slowdown begin to alter the monetary policy forecast. We continue to maintain a 'buy the dip' approach to gold, with an accumulation zone of $3800–$3900 per ounce, a short-term target of $4200, and a medium-term target of $4500–$4700. In the domestic market, assuming USD/INR at 96, we see ₹135,000 as a favorable accumulation zone, with a short-term target of ₹148,000 and a medium-term target of ₹160,000–₹168,000. Silver offers greater growth potential, but investors must remember its significantly higher volatility. Overall, instead of chasing price momentum, we believe investors should focus on disciplined accumulation during corrections, taking into account the role of precious metals in capital preservation and portfolio diversification,' Modi said.

Motilal Oswal reported that global gold ETF volumes grew by approximately 187 tonnes in August and September 2026 to a record 4256 tonnes. Inflows in the third quarter reached a record high of $31 billion. In India, inflows into gold ETFs grew by 71 percent month-on-month to ₹44.5 billion in September, while silver ETFs attracted inflows of ₹19.7 billion.

'Against this backdrop, gold continues to retain its appeal as a relatively defensive asset, while silver offers greater growth potential but carries a higher degree of volatility. As global macroeconomic conditions, monetary policy expectations, and geopolitical events continue to shape the precious metals market, investors may consider a disciplined accumulation strategy during price corrections rather than chasing short-term momentum,' the brokerage agency noted in its note.
