Mass protests in France over rising prices and stagnant wages; 600,000 people took to the streets

Public outcry has erupted in France due to the rising cost of living, low wages, and insufficient funding for education. On Thursday, more than six hundred thousand people took to the streets across the country. Mass demonstrations took place in cities such as Paris, Lyon, and Marseille, involving students, workers, and pensioners. Although most protests were peaceful, clashes occurred in some localities.

This movement began back in September as a protest by workers against staff shortages in one of the secondary schools. Initially, students demanded an increase in the education budget. Gradually, employees joined the demonstrations, demanding higher wages and pensions amid rising inflation. According to media reports, French trade unions note that prices for fuel, food, rent, gas, and electricity are increasing, while household incomes are not rising proportionally.

As a result of the protests, about a third of secondary schools in France either closed or operated with disruptions. In some educational institutions, students blocked roads, and teachers went on strike. Public transport was also affected in several areas. The famous Eiffel Tower in Paris was closed to visitors on Thursday.

During the demonstrations in Paris, students displayed placards expressing concern over inequality and the future. Employees called for improved working conditions and higher pensions. A private hospital employee raised concerns about staff shortages and the scarcity of necessary goods.

In response to the protests in France, strict security measures were implemented. Seventy thousand police officers were deployed nationwide. Armored vehicles, drones, and helicopters were utilized to support law enforcement. Nevertheless, the protests were not entirely peaceful everywhere. Media reports indicated that in Rennes, some masked individuals attempted to block roads. Officials also reported the use of stun grenades by the police. Tensions and clashes were also reported in Lyon, Nantes, Pau, Orléans, and Toulouse.

French trade unions warn that the country is heading towards a recession, and plans for company downsizing are intensifying. Unions argue that the government is failing to address the daily problems of citizens. Because of this, the movement has ceased to be limited only to students, attracting various segments of society.

These protests are taking place ahead of the presidential elections in France next May. Emmanuel Macron will not be able to run for a third term, making the growing discontent in the country a serious challenge for the current administration.

The company, named Influish, is looking for someone capable of daily viewing of Instagram Reels and identifying current social media trends. This unique vacancy was titled 'Professional Doom Scroller' and caused a wide buzz on social media.

The term 'Doomscrolling' is used when a person continuously scrolls through posts, videos, or news on social media without realizing how much time has passed. This term is usually applied to the habit of staying on social media for a long time without stopping. Nevertheless, in this case, the company is not looking for just someone who holds their phone for hours, but a candidate capable of recognizing current social media trends and explaining what type of content is growing in audience interest.

Italian Chef Fired in Australia for Refusing to Put Pineapple on Pizza

An Italian chef was fired from a well-known Australian restaurant after refusing to add a specific ingredient to his pizzas. The specialist himself, Davide Tamburella, claimed that using this fruit was an insult to his culture.

The decision was made by the Fair Work Commission on Tuesday and reported by the Guardian newspaper. It was established that Davide Tamburella was dismissed from the restaurant 'La Costa' in Queensland on May 20, two weeks after his boss, Elliot Ingram, called him in to discuss work-related issues.

Among these issues was the Italian chef's refusal to put pineapple on pizzas, as he considered it an 'insult to his culture,' according to The Guardian. It turned out that the restaurant was hired by an entrepreneur who wanted to hold an event and insisted on serving pizza with ham and pineapple. It is worth noting that this fruit is very popular in the region.

This was the third attempt by the chef to reject the request, demanding that his employer understand that for Italians, this was a matter of 'extreme importance.' In response, the restaurant owner stated that after 17 years in the hospitality business, he had learned that sometimes one has to make decisions contrary to personal preferences. He admitted: 'Can I order a pizza with ham and pineapple? Probably not my favorite,' but stressed that he could not ignore the customer's request.

For the chef, this decision had even more serious consequences, as he was planning to obtain a permanent residency visa in the country after three decades living in Australia. Without a job, this application would have to be returned to the initial stage. The British newspaper notes that meanwhile, the restaurant has closed, and its owner attributed this to high rent.

Nevertheless, the chef found a job at another restaurant.
