Yandex Uzbekistan is conducting necessary tests of its delivery robots and preparing them for operation in the urban environment of Tashkent.
These robots are designed to operate on routes up to two kilometers long. Route selection will depend on the ability to deliver orders within the timeframes established by the service. When placing an order, users will be able to see the estimated arrival time in the mobile application.
The robots move at pedestrian speed and navigate independently in the city. For this, they use lidar and ultrasonic sensors. Their computing systems analyze environmental data, recognize traffic light signals, and predict object movement. This allows the robots to choose optimal paths, avoid obstacles, and cross roads at pedestrian crossings.
Each robot is equipped with six drive wheels, which enables it to overcome curbs up to ten centimeters high and move over uneven surfaces. According to Yandex Uzbekistan, the devices are capable of functioning even in rainy weather.
The robots handle most road situations autonomously. In case of non-standard circumstances, a remote operator intervenes to resolve the issue. The company warns pedestrians not to lift or move the devices themselves. Access to customer support is provided via a QR code located on each robot.
After completing the pilot phase, Yandex Uzbekistan plans to gradually expand delivery using robots, integrating other services of its ecosystem and offering this technology to third-party companies.
This project became public knowledge in July 2026 when the robots were spotted on the streets of Tashkent. At that time, the company confirmed that it was conducting testing for delivering orders from Yandex Lavka.
