The five-day festival of lights will begin on November 6th. This major celebration starts with the Dhanteras festival, so people begin cleaning their homes before the Dhanteras Diwali celebration. There is a belief that such cleaning promotes positive energy and spreads happiness in the home. Vastu Shastra specialists assert that it is crucial to clean the four corners of the house before Dhanteras; it is believed that Kubera Maharaj, Dhanvantari, and the mother of Lakshmi reside in such homes.
According to Vastu Shastra, the northeast corner of the house, known as Ishan Kon, is considered a very sacred place and a zone for deities. This is why this side is often chosen for building temples. On Dhanteras day, it is necessary to thoroughly clean this corner, avoiding accumulations of dust, trash, or unnecessary items.
On Dhanteras day, cleanliness should also be maintained in the eastern direction of the house. Vastu Shastra emphasizes the special significance of this side, stating that maintaining cleanliness in the eastern part ensures a positive atmosphere in the dwelling. Therefore, accumulated dust and excess items must be removed by conducting a thorough cleaning.
Vastu Shastra associates the northern direction with prosperity and wealth, considering it the direction of Kubera Deva. In this regard, cleaning the northern part of the house during Dhanteras is considered auspicious. It is advisable to avoid placing damaged or unusable items in this area and to maintain order. According to religious beliefs, this helps preserve well-being and financial abundance in the home.
The central part of the house is called Brahma Sthan in Vastu Shastra and is considered the most important part of the dwelling. Special cleaning is required here during the Dhanteras period. No extra items, clutter, or objects that might create a sense of disorder should be left in this area. From a Vastu perspective, it is good to keep Brahma Sthan open, clean, and organized.
In addition to interior spaces, places such as the roof, balcony, main entrance, and pantry must be cleaned. It is strictly forbidden to store broken or rusty items in these areas. If there are withered or lifeless plants at the main entrance or on the balcony, they should be replaced with new ones.
