Meta offers employees voluntary departure with compensation equivalent to 2.15 monthly salaries per year of service

In the technology industry, companies are actively changing their workforce size and working methods: some are conducting layoffs, while others are offering employees the option to leave voluntarily. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has now joined this list. According to a report, the company has presented a voluntary exit plan for selected employees in France. It is estimated that about 100 people may be affected by this program.

This step comes as major tech giants such as Microsoft and Google are also providing their employees with a voluntary resignation option. However, Meta's approach differs from those of these companies.

According to the French publication La Lettre, Meta is developing a voluntary exit plan for its staff in France. Meta has about 300 employees in the country, and the program is expected to affect approximately 100 people. It is not yet clear which specific departments or positions will be included in this scheme. The report states that the application deadline for the program is set for November 5; negotiations began in July.

Meta's plan is based on the procedure of termination by collective agreement in accordance with French labor law. This procedure is called RCC in French. Under this framework, the company reaches an agreement with trade unions regarding voluntary downsizing. This differs from standard dismissal because employees are offered the opportunity to leave the company on predetermined terms. Currently, this scheme only applies to employees in France; there is no information about its application in other countries.

According to the report, the proposed package includes a payment equivalent to 2.15 months' salary for each year of service. Additionally, employees may be offered a 10-month paid leave (mobility leave), during which they will receive 80% of their gross salary. The company is also considering providing assistance to employees in obtaining retraining or starting their own businesses. It is important to note that all these conditions are part of the proposed plan and should not be considered the final package officially published by the company.

It is worth mentioning that Microsoft and Google have previously launched voluntary exit programs for their employees. Microsoft announced a Voluntary Exit Offer for selected teams in India, the US, the UK, and Canada in October 2026. According to the company, this benefit provides the opportunity to leave work accompanied by financial support and career planning assistance. Reports suggest that up to 60,000 employees could apply for this program, although the offer was not extended to everyone.

Meanwhile, Google has also expanded voluntary exit packages for employees in several countries. According to Reuters, in June 2026, the company expanded this program for some workers in Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and Switzerland.

Former Microsoft Employee Starts 30-Day Challenge After Firing Before Diwali

A former Microsoft employee, Rahul Kaushik, shared his experience on social media after losing his job. He recounted that he learned about the termination only the day after receiving the notice. Currently, Rahul has launched a 30-day challenge aimed at finding a new job with a salary exceeding his previous compensation at Microsoft.

Sharing his ordeal via an Instagram Reels video, Kaushik noted that the news of his dismissal was a major surprise, especially since it occurred right before the Diwali festival. Initially, he believed that his experience working at companies like Amazon and Microsoft would make finding a new role easy; however, he realized the seriousness of the situation the very next day.

Rahul explained in his video that he realized he had lost his job when he was unable to log into the official Microsoft system. He discovered that his corporate email address had also been blocked. Since he had used this account for the past two years, losing access to it was equivalent to acknowledging his termination. Kaushik admitted that it was initially difficult for him to accept the news, and he did not anticipate that his life would change so drastically following the layoffs.

Despite the difficulties, Kaushik decided to face the situation with great resilience. He announced a 30-day challenge during which he intends to find a new position with higher pay than what he earned at Microsoft. As part of this challenge, he plans to regularly send out his resume to new employers and share updates on his job search with his social media followers.

His decision comes at a time when tech professionals are operating in a highly competitive labor market, amid concerns about employment stability and limited opportunities in certain sectors. Kaushik's experience coincides with recent changes in Microsoft's workforce. The company initiated a voluntary separation program for approximately 60,000 employees in India, the US, the UK, and Canada. For eligible employees in India, the program includes payment of one month's basic salary for each full year of service, as well as health insurance and career transition support. The deadline for eligible employees in India to accept this offer is set for December 1, 2026.
