President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed state officials on November 4th to prepare proposals for improving legislation to increase the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in various sectors of the economy.
This directive was issued following a presentation on the development and regulation of the civil drone sector, according to the president's press service. The proposed measures are intended to take into account advanced international experience, promote domestic drone manufacturing, and create more favorable conditions for business.
The presentation covered ways to expand the civil use of UAVs and stimulate investment and business activity in this field. It was noted that wider adoption of drones requires modern regulatory mechanisms to ensure flight safety and protect citizens' privacy.
Specifically, it is necessary to improve unified rules for drone usage, registration procedures, and flight coordination. Mechanisms for insurance and damage compensation are also required. In this regard, officials suggested creating a unified digital information system that would contain data on unmanned aerial vehicles, clearly define permitted flight zones, and establish drone operating regulations.
Another focus of the presentation was specialist training. Starting from the new academic year, the Transport University intends to launch a program to train specialists in unmanned systems, which should be closely linked to practical work. Additionally, further steps are planned to increase youth interest in modern aviation technologies.
According to the information presented, drones are already used in agriculture for monitoring crops, applying protective agents, and assessing yields. In industry, they are used to monitor production processes and the condition of infrastructure objects, while in cities, they are used to track traffic flows and manage road movement.
It is estimated that the global drone market will grow by 10–15% annually. Participants noted that more active implementation of these technologies could accelerate economic growth, increase demand for highly qualified specialists, and support the development of new technological fields in Uzbekistan.
