Central Bank of Uzbekistan becomes one of the three largest gold buyers in September

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan acquired 7 tons of gold in September 2026, placing the country third among the world's largest buyers of the precious metal.

Overall, global central banks increased their gold reserves by 61 tons in September, marking the highest figure for the current year.

Leaders of the global gold market

According to information provided by the World Gold Council, Poland and China were the leaders in terms of purchase volume. In addition to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Jordan, the Czech Republic, and Bolivia also demonstrated an increase in gold reserves.

Since the beginning of 2026, the total net purchases of gold by global central banks have reached 228 tons. This figure is 7% lower than in the same period last year.

Uzbekistan continues its policy of increasing its reserves: in August, the Central Bank purchased an additional 8 tons of the precious metal. It should be noted that in July, Uzbekistan showed the opposite trend, becoming one of the largest sellers of gold, selling 1 ton. In July, the net purchases by global central banks amounted to 23 tons.
