Startup altM raises $10.3 million in Series A round with participation from Rainmatter and Mela Ventures

altM, a company specializing in the production of specialty chemicals, has successfully raised $10.3 million in a Series A funding round. New investors in this round include Rainmatter from Zerodha and Mela Ventures. Existing investors such as Omnivore, Theia Ventures, Aureolis Ventures, and Spectrum Impact, as well as strategic business angels, were also among the participants.

The Bengaluru-based company announced that the funds will be used to expand production capacity, strengthen research and development activities, support customer qualification programs, and develop engineering and commercial teams. This investment will enable altM to transition from pilot-scale production to full commercial manufacturing.

altM was founded in 2022 by Apurva Garg and Jugal Raj Jain. The company utilizes lignocellulosic biomass, such as rice straw and sugarcane bagasse, to create industrial chemicals. altM's processes use biomass components—cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin—to derive multiple products from a single raw material.

The startup serves industries including beauty and personal hygiene product manufacturing, textiles, construction, packaging, and consumer goods, with a particular focus on developing bio-based substitutes for fossil fuel-derived raw materials.

Abhinav Negi, Head of Climate and Deep Tech at Rainmatter by Zerodha, stated: 'We are pleased to partner with altM as it moves into commercial-scale production. Restructuring basic supply chains away from fossil fuel-derived raw materials is one of the most critical challenges facing modern manufacturing today.'

Krishnakumar N, Managing Partner at Mela Ventures, emphasized that solving deep technology problems requires understanding the interaction of multiple fields. He added: 'altM is solving one of the most complex challenges in industrial chemistry—creating next-generation materials that can match the performance of fossil fuel-derived raw materials while fundamentally changing the origin of their carbon.'

Since raising a seed round of $3.5 million in 2023, altM has established an integrated research and pilot production facility in Bengaluru. This facility combines laboratory research, demonstration production, and pilot manufacturing. The company reported that in less than two years, it increased its laboratory base nearly fivefold, launched a demonstration production unit, and brought six molecules to the demonstration level. Three of these were selected for production at the pilot plant.

Products slated for commercialization include a lignin-based SPF enhancer for sunscreens, a cellulose-based rheology modifier, and a bio-derived ferulic acid for cosmetics and personal care. Apurva Garg, co-founder and CEO of altM, said: 'Industrial production for over a century has relied on fossil carbon. We are creating a new source of industrial carbon from agricultural waste. Our goal is to develop materials and production processes that allow customers to implement these materials with the required performance, cost, quality, and scale for industrial applications.'

Abhilash Sethi, Partner at Omnivore, shared his view: 'We believed in altM from the beginning, and what strengthens our confidence is the team's ability to turn ambitious science into something real and commercially scalable. The transition from the lab to reliable production and ultimately to customers is a complex journey. altM has demonstrated a rare ability to make this transition.'

PowerUp Money raises $10 million to expand AI-based wealth management

The wealthtech platform PowerUp Money, which provides mutual fund consultations and digital wealth management services, has successfully raised $10 million in a funding round. The early-stage investment firm Flourish Ventures led this round.

Existing investors, including Peak XV Partners, Accel, Blume Ventures, Kae Capital, 8i Ventures, and DeVC, also participated in the round. The Bengaluru-based company plans to use a significant portion of the capital raised to develop its artificial intelligence-based wealth management platform and expand its managed advisory business.

PowerUp claims that over 1.5 million users utilize its platform to track mutual fund portfolios worth over 2.5 lakh rupees. Its paid Elite subscription, which offers research-based mutual fund advice, reached 100,000 paying subscribers in less than a year.

The company recently introduced Elite Prime—an AI-powered digital wealth management advisory service designed to provide a more comprehensive financial planning experience. The service analyzes an investor's financial goals, risk appetite, and current assets to suggest asset allocation, Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) plans, lump-sum investments, portfolio rebalancing, and withdrawal strategies. Furthermore, it can identify portfolio gaps and recommend diversification into assets such as gold, silver, and international investments.

Company employees plan to implement an AI coach and personal assistant to help users understand recommendations and make informed decisions. Founder and CEO Pratik Jindal noted that 'AI allows for a much more comprehensive experience, similar to a wealth manager's experience, in a digital format,' making personalized guidance accessible to investors who cannot afford traditional wealth management services.

PowerUp is also aiming to scale Infinite, its managed advisory offering. This service combines financial planning, portfolio construction, multi-asset allocation, and continuous portfolio management with dedicated human advisors. According to the company, Infinite accumulated nearly 500 crore rupees in Assets Under Management (AUM) in approximately nine months after launch, despite a limited client base. Expanding access to this service for a larger number of investors is another priority thanks to the new funding.

This growth occurs against the backdrop of a steady increase in the Indian mutual fund market. According to the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), the industry's total assets reached 82.64 lakh rupees by the end of September 2026, significantly higher than the 15.8 lakh rupees recorded a decade ago. Monthly SIP contributions also reached 32,490 crore rupees in September, reflecting the growing adoption of regular long-term investing.

Investor interest has spurred further funding in the wealthtech sector. The debt investment platform Wint Wealth raised 250 crore rupees in a Series B round in January, and the wealth management firm Centricity secured 280 crore rupees in August. The AI-focused startup Novelty Wealth also announced a seed round of $1.4 million in March.

However, growth is accompanied by challenges. Digital advisory services must remain appropriate, transparent, and compliant with regulations as the platforms' client base expands. SEBI issued an updated Master Circular for investment advisors in February, strengthening the regulatory framework governing investment advice. Ravi Kaushik, Head of Asia at Flourish Ventures, noted that the opportunity lies in helping investors manage increasingly complex financial lives.

AI startup Simplismart raises $14 million from Dallas Venture Capital and Nvidia

Simplismart, a startup in the field of artificial intelligence inference infrastructure, has successfully closed a Series B funding round, raising $14 million. The round was led by Dallas Venture Capital, with participation from NVIDIA, Accel, Shastra VC, and Micromax among others.

The company plans to use the raised funds to further develop its AI inference platform, expand partnerships with cloud providers, and pursue sovereign AI initiatives. Additionally, Simplismart intends to strengthen its presence in both the North American market and other global arenas.

Simplismart develops software that connects AI models with Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) infrastructure. Its modular inference engine allows enterprises to customize models according to speed, cost, and performance requirements. The company's orchestration platform manages the deployment and scaling of systems in both cloud and on-premise infrastructure.

Amritaanshu Jain, co-founder and CEO of Simplismart, noted that the team spent four years creating the software layer between the model and the GPU, helping clients optimize workload operation and deployment. He added that this funding will enable the platform to reach more enterprises and cloud providers worldwide.

The company reported that its annual revenue growth has increased 14-fold over the last six months. Simplismart's clients include companies such as HeyGen, Higgsfield, InVideo, Shiprocket, Apna, and Ema, which use the platform to run production tasks in AI applications for video, voice, multimodality, and enterprise use.

As part of its offering to cloud providers, Simplismart collaborates with NVIDIA to deploy AI infrastructure. Unlike inference providers who buy or reserve GPU capacity and resell it, Simplismart does not own computational infrastructure. Instead, it provides a software layer that enables third-party GPU farms to execute AI production tasks, positioning itself as a tool for data centers.

Thanks to this platform, cloud providers can offer managed AI services under their own brands without having to build the basic software stack from scratch. Deakar Puskoor, Managing Partner at Dallas Venture Capital, stated that Simplismart is rapidly becoming a global player that facilitates more efficient operation of enterprises with AI tasks and allows cloud providers to turn GPU power into scalable services. He emphasized that they are supporting this fast-growing company due to its proven technical expertise in solving a critical need in the AI infrastructure ecosystem and the strong execution capabilities of the founding team.
