WEEX Review: Explaining Fees, Leverage, KYC, and Security Measures

WEEX is a cryptocurrency exchange primarily focused on futures traders. The exchange was founded in 2018, offers about 2000 spot assets and over 500 futures contracts, and allows leverage up to 400x on major pairs. Additionally, it provides the option to trade without identity verification, which is rare among major exchanges.

Many WEEX reviews are limited to a fee table. This review examines actual trading costs, hidden expenses, and factors that can reduce user costs in detail. Overall, spot fees are standard, the fee for takers on futures is higher than most major competitors, and funding can cost more than the trading fees themselves. However, using a referral code upon registration gives a 20% discount on every trade for the entire account duration.

WEEX charges a percentage of every trade, which is divided into maker and taker fees. A maker order is a limit order that remains in the order book until executed by someone else. A taker order is executed immediately, whether it is a market or a limit order whose price matches an existing one. Makers add liquidity, so they pay less.

Spot trading costs 0.1% for both makers and takers. For example, buying $1000 worth of ETH will cost $1 in commission, and a subsequent sale will require another approximately $1. This fee level is consistent with what most major exchanges set, meaning spot traders gain little or lose little by choosing WEEX solely on this parameter.

Futures are where WEEX differs. The maker fee is 0.02%, which is standard. However, the taker fee reaches 0.08%, exceeding the rates of Bybit (0.055%), Binance (0.05%), and OKX (0.05%) at base levels. The difference of 0.025–0.03 percentage points seems insignificant, but on futures, it is substantial because fees are charged on the entire position size, not just your margin.

Consider an example: opening a long position on BTC with 10x leverage with a $1000 margin. The total position size will be $10,000. This means that 1.6% of your $1000 margin will be lost before the price even starts moving. BTC only needs to rise by 0.16% for you to break even.

Changing order types reduces the cost. With the same turnover of $10,000, the most patient trader on WEEX pays a quarter of what the most impatient trader pays when executing the exact same trade.

Perpetual futures have no expiration date. To keep the price close to the spot price, long and short positions periodically pay each other a funding fee. When the market is in a bull trend, longs usually pay shorts; in a bear trend, the opposite occurs. The typical funding rate is 0.01% every 8 hours. On a $10,000 position, if held for a week, funding costs will exceed $16 paid for opening and closing. In hot markets, this can be several times higher. Before holding a trade for several days, check the current rate for your coin; free tools like Kumocast's live funding rates show this information nearby for major exchanges.

Volume is defined as the total amount of all your trades, not your deposit. When using leverage, it grows quickly: a $500 margin with 20x leverage forms a $10,000 position, and opening and closing this position five times a day accumulates about $3 million per month. This is what a futures trader actively using taker orders pays:

The biggest savings are achieved before the first trade. When opening a WEEX account using a referral code, every spot and futures trade costs 20% less while you use the account. WEEX labels the registration field as 'VIP code', but it is the same as a referral or invitation code. Using the WEEX referral code gfek provides a 20% discount and also grants access to new WEEX user rewards worth up to 10,000 USDT. These rewards are based on completing tasks: small coupons for registration and login, a trial fund for the first deposit, an airdrop position for the first futures trade, and larger trial funds as your volume grows. They must be completed within 14 days of registration, and they are mainly paid out as trading coupons or trial funds, not cash.

How to set it up: The code must be entered when creating the account. WEEX does not specify how to add it later, so an existing account cannot receive the discount. Applying the code along with a limit order causes the full cycle transaction cost of $10,000 to drop from $16 to $3.20, which is an 80% reduction.

WEEX offers up to 400x leverage for selected perpetual pairs, such as BTC, which is one of the highest limits among major exchanges. Most other pairs have lower limits, and the maximum leverage decreases as the position size increases, so 400x is only available for small positions.

How much should the price change against you to wipe out your margin: With 400x leverage, normal price noise within two seconds can close your position. Since fees are charged on the full position, a turnover cost of 0.16% already exceeds half of the 0.25% movement required for liquidation. Most experienced traders operate in the range of 2x to 10x and use isolated margin so that a losing trade does not deplete the rest of the account.

Yes, you can deposit cryptocurrency and trade spot and futures without identity verification. Without KYC, the withdrawal limit is about 10,000 USDT per day at the initial level. Verification with an ID document and a short facial scan increases this limit to approximately $1,000,000 per day and unlocks P2P trading and card purchases. This is useful if you want to test the platform with a small amount before providing documents. However, there is a timing nuance: if you make a large profit and want to withdraw more than the non-KYC limit, you will have to verify, which may take time. If you plan to trade large sums, it is best to verify in advance.

WEEX maintains a reserve fund of 1000 BTC to cover user losses in emergencies and publishes a reserve confirmation page allowing users to verify that client balances are backed. No major external hacks have been reported. A notable incident occurred in March 2025 when an order matching failure on the ETH/USDT market affected users; WEEX stated that it compensated 5022 users totaling 6,123,393 USDT. Payment after a platform failure is a good sign, but it also reminds us that any exchange can face issues.

Basic protection on any exchange: WEEX is often compared to Bybit. Both exchanges focus on futures and both offer discounts to users who join with a referral code. Bybit is cheaper for traders using market orders and has deeper order books for the largest coins, meaning less slippage on large trades. WEEX allows higher leverage and permits trading before verification. For a trader who mainly uses limit orders, the difference is almost negligible, as the maker fee is the same on both platforms.

Many traders use both accounts: Bybit for BTC and ETH volume, WEEX for smaller coins, high leverage settings, or trading without KYC. If you choose Bybit, the Bybit referral code 93065 reduces its fees by 20% in a similar way.

WEEX is suitable if you: [list omitted in original]
Less suitable if you: [list omitted in original]
Advantages: [list omitted in original]
Disadvantages: [list omitted in original]

What are WEEX trading fees? Spot trading costs 0.1% for makers and takers. Futures cost 0.02% for makers and 0.08% for takers at the base level. Registration with a referral code, such as gfek, reduces both rates by 20%.

Is WEEX more liberal than Bybit? Yes, for futures market orders: 0.08% versus 0.055%. For limit orders, the maker fee is the same, 0.02%, on both platforms.

How much does a futures trade cost on WEEX? On a $10,000 position, opening and closing with market orders will cost $16, or $12.80 with a 20% referral discount. Using limit orders in both directions costs $4, or $3.20 with a discount.

Does WEEX charge funding fees? WEEX itself does not hold funding; it is paid between long and short positions every few hours. At a typical rate of 0.01% every 8 hours, a $10,000 position costs about $3 per day.

Is WEEX legitimate and safe? WEEX has been operating since 2018, has a reserve fund of 1000 BTC, and publishes reserve confirmations. No major external hacks have been reported; in March 2025, it compensated 5022 users after an order matching failure.

Does WEEX require KYC? No. You can deposit crypto assets and trade without KYC, with a withdrawal limit of about 10,000 USDT per day. Verification increases this limit and unlocks P2P trading and card purchases.

What is the maximum leverage on WEEX? Up to 400x for selected perpetual pairs, such as BTC. Most pairs have lower limits, and leverage decreases as the position size increases.

What is the WEEX VIP code? It is WEEX's term for the referral code field during registration. Entering gfek provides a 20% discount on trading fees and access to new user rewards worth up to 10,000 USDT.

Can I add a referral code to an existing WEEX account? WEEX does not describe how to do this. The code must be entered when creating the account.

Is WEEX available in the US? No. WEEX does not accept users from the United States, Canada, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and several other countries.

WEEX is a reliable choice for futures traders who require high leverage, built-in copy trading, and the ability to start without KYC, supported by a protection fund and reserve confirmations. Its weakness is the 0.08% futures taker fee, which is higher than that of major competitors. The good news is that most of these costs depend on the user: open an account with a referral code like gfek to get a 20% discount on every trade, use limit orders where possible, monitor funding before holding positions for several days, and keep leverage moderate. By meeting all four conditions, a trade on WEEX can cost less than a careless trade on a cheaper exchange.

The Future of Cryptocurrencies: Regulatory Sandboxes, AI Assistants, and the Rise of Derivatives

Investing in cryptocurrencies is moving beyond the initial hype. Regulation, increased investor awareness, risk management, and new technologies are transforming how digital assets are traded while raising important questions about responsible participation in this space.

At the TechSparks 2026 event, Rajagopal Menon, Vice President of WazirX; Satish Mishra, CTO of Pi42 and SharkExchange; and Sharad Chandra, founder of EmpowerEdge Ventures, participated in a discussion with Suetha Kannan, Deputy Editor of YourStory. They discussed the changing landscape of the crypto industry, the need for regulatory clarity, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in trading.

The Indian cryptocurrency market has traditionally been a dynamic space that grew rapidly during the 2021–2022 bull cycle. Menon noted that WazirX spot markets processed nearly $48 billion in transactions during that period. However, subsequent tax measures introduced in the budget have significantly altered the market.

In Menon's view, the situation resulting from these changes puts Indian exchanges at a disadvantage compared to foreign platforms. He emphasized that local exchanges are obligated to withhold Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and operate within the 30% tax regime, whereas foreign exchanges have not faced such requirements. He opined that a stable or improved environment should involve applying the same rules to everyone so that support for the 'Make in India' initiative is directed towards Indian exchanges.

Menon also pointed out a shift in trading activity: as spot trading volumes decline, futures and derivatives are gaining popularity. He predicts significant adoption of this segment in India.

Turning to regulation, Chandra stated that exchanges have facilitated investor education on various crypto assets and risk understanding, but gaps remain in the legal framework. He asserted that after regulation, there could be a significant inflow of capital into the country.

Chandra indicated that while exchanges are required to comply with KYC norms, shortcomings persist in identity verification as assets move across the blockchain. He suggested that regulatory sandboxes could help resolve some of these issues. SEBI and IFSCA already have such sandboxes to stimulate innovation in capital markets, but fintech companies focused on native digital assets have not yet received permission to participate.

He also highlighted the potential of tokenization, citing the tokenization of corporate bonds as an example. Currently, participation in this process is limited to institutional players. Chandra proposed that opening regulatory sandboxes to a wider range of Web3 fintech companies would allow them to test new ideas, refine existing processes, and play a more significant role in the tokenization process.

Unlike traditional financial markets, cryptocurrencies trade 24/7, seven days a week. For technical teams, this means constant system monitoring, risk management, and incident response without the predictable downtime provided by market closing hours.

Mishra described how trading activity on crypto platforms can intensify during evenings and weekends, partly in response to movements in US markets. This creates continuous demands for observability, alerting, and leverage monitoring. His experience building a spot trading exchange showed how quickly demand for derivatives can outpace infrastructure development. The Pi42 team initially chose a different approach, creating a platform specifically for derivatives instead of adapting a spot trading system. Mishra noted that production incidents occurred on weekends when systems could not keep up with demand. This experience underscored the necessity of building infrastructure around the 24/7 operational model of cryptocurrencies.

As more people enter the crypto market, investor education and effective regulatory compliance become increasingly vital. Menon mentioned WazirX's 'Gangs of Cryptopur' campaign, aimed at helping investors understand what they are trading. He also spoke about the need for a disciplined approach to cryptocurrencies, comparing the historical returns of various asset classes to Bitcoin. His advice was to think long-term rather than viewing cryptocurrency as a series of short-term bets.

For exchanges, simplifying the user process is as important as maintaining compliance checks. Mishra explained that KYC can be frustrating if an application is rejected, forcing the user to start over. Technology can simplify this by allowing users to resume where they left off and clearly explaining what needs correction. He added that genuine users are generally less concerned about compliance checks than those trying to bypass them. The goal is to make the process smoother for users while retaining the checks necessary to detect suspicious activity.

Artificial intelligence is also changing how traders research markets and assess potential deals. Menon reported that WazirX implemented an AI-based feature that scans over 300 tokens to identify those exhibiting bearish momentum. WazirX AI is the first AI agent for cryptocurrencies in India that acts as a conversational assistant, processing complex multi-step queries, including technical indicators like MACD and RSI, and offering users options for consideration. Traders must confirm the chosen strategy before the AI places an order with stop-loss and take-profit parameters. Menon views AI as a way to analyze large volumes of market data and identify patterns, but he also stressed that AI should support decisions, not make them for users.

Mishra also strongly urged traders to backtest AI-generated strategies and monitor their performance before using them in live markets, advising: 'If you ask AI for a strategy and then act on it, make sure you are also watching it so that when it starts going wrong, you can turn it off.'

Chandra noted that the regulatory implications will depend on how AI is used. Educational tools may be viewed differently from systems offering personalized investment advice, which could fall under investment advisor regulations. He also emphasized the need for AI systems to be robust, explainable, auditable, and fair.

As the crypto landscape evolves under the influence of new regulations, AI breakthroughs, and changing investor expectations, Menon, Chandra, and Mishra were asked about the next phase of the sector. For Menon, this was futures and derivatives. Mishra agreed, noting that derivatives continue to grow and meet specific needs within the crypto ecosystem. Chandra pointed to another emerging opportunity: compute futures, given developments such as the launch of CME compute futures in the US, indicating how new asset classes can emerge at the intersection of AI and digital assets.

As the market develops, the discussion highlighted three interconnected priorities: clearer regulation, stronger infrastructure, and more conscious use of AI. The next phase of crypto investing in India will depend not only on new products and trading opportunities but also on how effectively the ecosystem manages risks and gains trust.

The theft of $6.3 billion from the crypto exchange Binance raises alarm and draws close scrutiny from regulators

In the largest recorded cyberattack, over six billion dollars were withdrawn from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. American agencies are working with private partners to assess the hack and recover the stolen funds, while Binance has promised to cover all losses.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is aware of the incident and is coordinating with partners to understand the scope of the activity, assess potential consequences, and organize appropriate investigative steps, as the agency stated in a message to Bloomberg News on Friday. A representative reported that FBI agents from the Secret Service are also collaborating around the clock with the private sector to recover the stolen assets.

The Department of Justice acknowledged receiving information about the attack, but representatives declined to comment on the progress of the investigation. Although the full details of the Binance hack have not yet been disclosed, this incident occurs amid growing concerns about the risks posed by hackers in the age of artificial intelligence.

Recent cyberattacks have affected the Polymarket prediction platform, South Korean financial companies Mirae Asset Global Investments Co. and Daishin Securities, as well as the Japanese currency trading platform GMO Internet Group Inc.

The largest cryptocurrency trading platform suspended withdrawals and committed to compensating for all losses. Binance co-founder Richard Teng stated in a video posted on social media on Friday that the exchange is capable of doing so due to continuous reinvestment of revenue into cryptocurrencies. Co-founder Yi He clarified that Binance's annual revenue would fully cover the lost amount. Withdrawals were expected to resume by Sunday.

Teng noted: 'Most of what we earn from daily operations is held in crypto assets. That is why we can immediately absorb a loss of this size using our own funds.'

Americans are prohibited from using this exchange; there is a separate, smaller entity, Binance.US.

This hack occurred during a period when the Trump administration and its regulators were actively promoting the widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. In September, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved a so-called innovation exemption that allows public company stocks to trade on blockchains. Experts believe that the Binance hack will likely intensify concerns among public company executives regarding the adoption of such technologies.

In turn, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission recently proposed regulations for digital asset markets and transactions. If approved, this measure will regulate leveraged futures trading offered to retail clients and create a new category for crypto exchanges offering such trades, requiring registration with the agency.

Austin Campbell, a cryptocurrency expert and former banker who is now an adjunct professor at NYU Stern School of Business, compared the situation to car safety, stating that 'transactions need delays and checkpoints.' He added: 'A car can be faster, cheaper, and more economical if you remove all the airbags and seatbelts.'

Blockchain analysis firms TRM Labs, Chainalysis, and Elliptic pointed to North Korea as the organization behind the theft from Binance. Chainalysis classified the incident as 'the largest in crypto history and one of the biggest financial crimes of all time.' The funds seized during the attack consisted of a mix of major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, as well as dollar-backed stablecoins USDT and USDC.

Following the news of the attack on Binance, Bitcoin fell below $77,000 for the first time in over a month, remaining the largest traded currency near these low levels for most of Friday.

For cryptocurrency supporters who had enjoyed a two-month price recovery, the Binance incident overshadowed this rally.

Binance significantly surpasses its industry competitors, boasting assets worth approximately $135.2 billion compared to $28.6 billion held by the second-largest exchange, OKX, according to DefiLlama data.

Binance reported that the incident might be related to a compromised engineer's laptop, as well as 'additional points of entry.' The exchange stated that it found no evidence of leaked private keys.

In a post on X, Binance stated: 'It was a sophisticated attack, and we are doing everything possible in coordination with law enforcement to resolve it.'

In 2018, the exchange established an emergency insurance and reserve fund for users called the Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), which serves as a guarantee for clients in 'extreme situations.' According to the exchange's report, SAFU is typically maintained at around $1 billion, but in 2024, it fluctuated in tandem with market movements.

The two largest stablecoin issuers announced measures to freeze the affected currencies. Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, stated in an X post that he froze over $1.5 billion of USDT stablecoin 'related to the potential Binance exchange hack.' Jeremy Allaire, managing director of Circle Internet Group Inc., stated that $800 million of his USDC token was frozen amid 'reports of a possible exploit related to Binance.'

NCDEX launches NDEX and FINNDEX indices, aiming to become a multi-segment exchange

NCDEX, formerly known as the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, has announced its entry into the stock and derivatives markets by introducing two new indices: NDEX and FINNDEX. This move is part of the exchange's strategy to diversify from a focus on agricultural commodities to becoming a broader provider of market infrastructure.

The NDEX index serves as a benchmark, comprising 20 large and liquid stocks selected from a total pool of 60 companies listed on the NSE. Meanwhile, FINNDEX covers 15 financial companies, excluding insurance firms, and is formed from among 40 companies meeting specific criteria.

A composite score is used for stock ranking, assigning 30 percent weight to each of the following metrics: free-float market capitalization and average daily trading value, with 20 percent allocated to both beta and volatility. The methodology aims to combine parameters such as company size, trading activity, and stock sensitivity to the market.

The exchange has set a limit stipulating that no single stock can exceed 15 percent during any rebalancing, which the exchange states should enhance diversification and reduce concentration risk in one stock. The indices will be reviewed and rebalanced twice a year—in March and September—with the possibility of unscheduled adjustments under certain circumstances.

Vikas Goel, Managing Director and CEO, noted that the launch of NDEX and FINNDEX marks a significant milestone in NCDEX's transformation into a multi-segment exchange. He emphasized that transparent and well-designed benchmarks are becoming increasingly important as Indian capital markets deepen and attract greater domestic and international participation.

Goel added that the goal of creating these indices is to support informed investment decisions and expand the range of tools available to market participants. The exchange recently also began diversifying by launching a mutual fund trading platform and plans to expand its presence with the launch of the equity segment. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is expected to approve the equity segment in January. According to sources, after receiving Sebi's approval in the second half of the next fiscal year, the exchange may begin trading derivatives based on NDEX and FINNDEX.
