The improvement of part of Shevchenko tourist street is planned in the Mirobod district of Tashkent. According to information provided by the Mayor of the Mirobod district, Anvar Saifutdinov, at public hearings, work will be carried out on the section from Turkiston Street to Nukus Street.
The project does not involve the construction of new buildings or restaurants; the Berdak monument will remain in its original location. The main focus is on improving the urban environment: pedestrian paths will be updated, green areas will be expanded, new trees and flowers will be planted, and benches with canopies will be installed.
The installation of a lighting system, the mounting of video surveillance cameras, and the creation of three fountains are planned. Additionally, the erection of a flagpole over 60 meters high is scheduled near the North Station. The Mayor emphasized that the Berdak monument will not be affected because it is cultural heritage, and the improvement will only concern the adjacent territory.
Small trading points for selling coffee, tea, sharbat, and ice cream will be organized, and the locations for these points will be put up for auction. Entrepreneurs who obtain these spots will pay the state monthly, and a portion of the collected funds will go towards the maintenance and cleaning of the area.
It is also planned to bring the facades of residential buildings in the vicinity into a unified style, similar to the work done on Nukus Street. Existing tourist facilities will be preserved, but their layout will be organized. A nearby water channel is planned to be used for watering the greenery, which will allow for savings in budget funds.
The Mayor specified that the reconstruction of the remaining part of Shevchenko Street should be completed by the end of November. The improvement of the section between Turkiston and Nukus Streets will begin after the project is approved and is expected to take approximately two months.
