Mercedes GLC Electric launched in India: claims 711 km range and 10-minute charging capability

The German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has officially introduced its new electric SUV model, the Mercedes GLC Electric, to the Indian market. This SUV features an attractive design and a powerful battery pack, with a starting price set at 78.5 thousand rupees (excluding taxes).

The company plans to localize the assembly of this electric model. Based on a 400V architecture, the company asserts that the vehicle is capable of covering a distance of up to 711 kilometers on a single charge (according to WLTP certification), although the actual mileage may vary depending on road conditions, driving style, and vehicle load.

Prior to the official launch, the electric SUV received significant positive feedback. According to the company, over 1000 pre-orders were placed, allowing all units to be sold out until March 2027. Vehicle delivery is scheduled for the Diwali period.

Mercedes-Benz has increased the dimensions of the new GLC Electric compared to its gasoline and diesel versions. The electric SUV is 140 mm longer, 23 mm wider, and 12 mm higher. Furthermore, the increased wheelbase by 84 mm results in an overall length of 2972 mm, providing more cabin space.

The car is available in six different colors: Sher Blue, Lavender Silver, Obsidian Black, Opalite White Bright, Patagonia Red Metallic, and Alpine Grey Solid. The last three colors are available with a special factory paint option.

The standard configuration includes the AMG styling package, giving the car a sportier look. It is equipped with large 20-inch alloy wheels, as well as front and rear bumpers in AMG design. Instead of excessive protrusions, the body features a clean and smooth style. The rear section has a glossy black panel with headlights and the Mercedes logo.

A distinctive design feature is the front grille, which contains 914 individual LED elements. These lights form various patterns when parking, starting, or turning the car off. The grille design is inspired by classic Mercedes models such as the Mercedes W114 and W108.

The interior of the GLC Electric resembles a cinema thanks to a grand 39.1-inch hyper-screen that spans from one end of the dashboard to the other. It is important to note that this is a single large display, not a set of three separate screens, without visible borders. This reduces the number of physical buttons, including climate control, which is operated via the screen. Despite this, the screen response is fast, and the graphics are high resolution; users can change the screen appearance using 11 preset themes.

Wood, metal, and leather have been used to enhance the luxury inside. The center console is finished with open-pore black wood, and the air vents feature metallic accents. The car is equipped with a 3D Burmester audio system with 15 speakers. As an AMG Line model, it features a four-spoke sports steering wheel. Customers have three upholstery options: black, medium brown, and ivory.

The car integrates a panoramic glass roof with a starry effect, although a traditional sunshade is absent. Instead, the driver can electronically adjust the glass transparency. Other features include two wireless phone chargers, ambient lighting, AI-based functions, an electric trunk, and electrically folding rear seats.

In terms of safety, the company has made no compromises. The car is equipped with Level-2 ADAS driver assistance system, which operates using 8 cameras and 5 radars. It also includes automatic parking, a 360-degree camera, and nine airbags. The front seats have massage and heating functions, although ventilation is not available. The trunk volume is 570 liters, and there is an additional storage compartment (frunk) under the hood with a capacity of 128 liters.

The GLC Electric is equipped with a large 94 kWh battery pack and two electric motors—one in the front and one in the rear.

Toyota presents off-road electric SUV concept, bZ Woodland, for SEMA Show exhibition

Toyota has developed an electric vehicle capable of tackling rough terrain, presenting the bZ Woodland Concept. This is one of five prototypes that the manufacturer will exhibit during the SEMA Show, the world's largest customization fair, which will take place in Las Vegas, USA, from November 3 to 6.

The concept is derived from the bZ Woodland, which is already an adventure version of the bZ electric SUV sold in the United States since the beginning of the year. This model features two motors, all-wheel drive, delivers 380 hp, and has an extended body by 15 centimeters.

For its participation in the show, Toyota's design studio in California, CALTY Design Research, made modifications to the prototype, including increasing the suspension height, installing fender flares, satin black wheels, and all-terrain mixed-use tires.

Aesthetically, the black hood and roof create a contrast with the Horizon Blue body, a color inspired by Toyota models from the 1960s, such as the Stout pickup, Crown, and Corona. Additionally, the bZ was equipped with a roof cargo basket and a tow hitch at the rear.

In the Brazilian market, Toyota sells the bZ4X, which was the model name in the US before its redesign, for R$ 419,990, distributed in batches of 99 units imported from Japan since June. However, the Woodland version remains available only in North America for now.

The other four vehicles in the family are also available in the same configuration: the plug-in hybrid RAV4, the three-row SUV Grand Highlander, the Sienna minivan, and the Crown Signia crossover.

Furthermore, Toyota will bring the Snowhunter line to SEMA, which includes the Tundra and Tacoma pickups, as well as the 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia SUVs. These models received winter camouflage and snow-designed tracks, replacing conventional wheels.

In a contrasting direction, the Crown Signia GT-S Concept, developed by the Toyota Motorsports Garage division, was transformed into a sports wagon. This model features a reduction in height of almost 13 cm, uses 21-inch HRE wheels, and has brake calipers adapted from the Lexus RX 500h F Sport.

Toyota clarified that all these vehicles are prototypes built with components that the brand does not commercialize and which may not have the proper homologation for public road use.

Hyundai plans to launch the most affordable electric SUV in the Indian market

Hyundai is developing plans to introduce a range of new vehicles, including an electric crossover, to the Indian market. The brand is expected to debut this new model early next year.

The new electric vehicle will compete in a segment dominated by models such as the Tata Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Kia Seltos EV. This upcoming electric SUV will feature a distinct design compared to other mass-market Hyundai models, as the company aims to attract the mass consumer. The codename for this vehicle is Hyundai HE1i, and it may utilize a smaller battery.

The car could be equipped with batteries similar to those used in the Kia Seltos EV. The Seltos EV is fitted with a 42 kWh battery and a front electric motor that produces 135 hp and 255 Nm of torque, with a claimed range of 443 kilometers. A similar range and configuration may also appear in Hyundai models.

However, the Kia Seltos EV also offers a variant with a 51.4 kWh battery, which provides 171 hp and 255 Nm of torque. The more affordable electric SUV from Hyundai is also anticipated to have both standard and long-range versions. The first production batches will use battery cells from Volt.

Hyundai plans to source battery components locally in India, which will help reduce the vehicle's cost. The SUV may integrate Level 2 ADAS systems and a PlayOS-based infotainment system. The car might feature a dual 10.25-inch display, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and an auto-dimming IRVM.

This vehicle will be built on the Hyundai e-GMP platform, with production scheduled at a facility in Tamil Nadu. Currently, the company is preparing to launch the Hyundai Bayon in India, which is set to debut on October 28. This model was presented to the global market and will be equipped with a 1.5-liter atmospheric engine with a manual or IVT transmission. Bayon is expected to occupy a position between the Venues and Creta, with a starting price of 10 lakh rupees.
