Amul raises prices on butter and ghee; increase reaches 50 rupees

Ahead of Diwali, the major dairy company Amul announced a significant price increase for its dairy products. This price hike occurred amid rising festive demand and reports of supply shortages in some markets, which will lead to increased household expenses during the holidays.

The reasons for Amul's price increase are linked to the growing demand for branded ghee in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan. According to reports, the increase in demand correlates with measures taken against suspicious counterfeit dairy products.

With the latest price adjustment, the cost of a 1-kilogram pack of ghee has increased by exactly 50 rupees. Furthermore, a 500-gram pack of butter has become 15 rupees more expensive. These new price points emerged against reports from retailers in certain areas of Gujarat regarding the shortage of specific dairy products, particularly cow's ghee.

Karnataka Government Approves 8 Rupee Price Hike for Milk Per Liter

Residents are facing difficulties due to the sharp rise in prices. The Karnataka government cabinet approved an increase in the cost of milk by 8 rupees per liter. This increase applies to Nandini Milk.

The Karnataka cabinet made this important decision on Tuesday, and it will take effect from November 1st. Previously, this proposal had been approved by the cabinet, but its announcement was postponed due to elections to the Legislative Assembly (MLC) and the existing code of conduct. Now, after the code of conduct was lifted, the government announced the price increase.

Minister Krishna Bayre Gowda stated that in light of the crisis faced by farmers, members of all parties in the Legislative Assembly demanded measures to provide them with assistance. Milk producers themselves took to the streets to protest, and cooperative societies also insisted on a price increase.

Discussing this with journalists after the cabinet meeting, he reported that, respecting these demands, the cabinet decided to increase the price received by dairy farmers by 7 rupees per liter. Additionally, cooperative societies will receive an increase of 1 rupee per liter, totaling an 8 rupee per liter rise.

The Minister also informed that the issue was discussed two or three times in the cabinet. Ultimately, a unanimous decision was reached on the matter. He added that when farmers held demonstrations, representatives of their cooperative societies met with the Chief Minister, the Minister of Animal Husbandry, and the Minister of Cooperation, demanding a price increase of at least 10 rupees per liter.

Olivia Dean's Debut in South Africa: Tickets for Milk + Cookies Festival Spark Debates Over Affordability

Excitement is building ahead of Olivia Dean's first performance in South Africa. However, the rush to secure tickets for the Milk + Cookies Festival 2027 has also sparked a discussion regarding the event's price accessibility.

On Wednesday, October 28th, the pre-sale for festival tickets began. Fans monitored screens, awaiting the opportunity to purchase spots in the online queue for one of next year's highly anticipated music events.

For some fans, obtaining a ticket was the priority, while others questioned whether the festival experience itself justified such a cost.

Access to the pre-sale was granted to fans who registered via Olivia Dean's official link, provided by Laylo. Registration was also possible through the Milk + Cookies Festival website for early access.

Nevertheless, registration did not guarantee a ticket. The number of tickets available for the pre-sale was limited and sold on a 'first come, first served' basis, leading to disappointment among some fans who waited in line but could not get the desired tickets.

This frenzy highlights the high interest in Dean's upcoming performances, as South African fans prepare to see the British singer-songwriter whose music has gained international recognition.

Although the high demand for tickets reflects the anticipation of Dean's appearance, the price range has divided the audience. General admission tickets range from R1,250 to R2,250; some concertgoers question the acceptability of this price, while others believe the experience justifies the expense.

For those hoping to attend, the costs are not limited to just the ticket price. Transportation, accommodation for those traveling from other cities, and other expenses related to the festival day can significantly increase the total amount.

Organizers also offered installment payment options, giving guests a chance to spread out the costs instead of making a single lump-sum payment. However, the availability of payment plans does not make the event accessible to everyone, especially for fans who already have other financial obligations.

The performances will take place in Cape Town on Friday, January 29, 2027, at Sandringham Farm, and in Johannesburg on Sunday, January 31, 2027, at Nasrec Expo Centre. Dean will headline the third South African edition of the Milk + Cookies Festival. Previous headliners included Canadian DJ and producer Kaytranada in 2025 and American rapper Gunna in 2026.

The 2027 lineup also features South African artists Elaine, Zee Nxumalo, Chelsea Sloan, and Jade T, with announcements expected regarding additional performers and program details.

The festival combines live music with elements of food culture, fashion, art, and design, as well as creative activations, workshops, and pop-up shops.

Fans who were unable to purchase tickets during the pre-sale on Wednesday still have another chance. General ticket sales will open on Friday, October 30th, through the Howler platform for both Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Given the demand already demonstrated during the pre-sale, fans wishing to attend should be prepared for the general sale opening. Nevertheless, availability will depend on the remaining number of tickets.

Information about tickets and the event itself is available on the official Milk + Cookies Festival website. For fans who have long awaited Dean's live performance in South Africa, the countdown to January has officially begun. Now it remains to see if they can manage to purchase a ticket before the remaining stock sells out.

Milk product prices increased in Tamil Nadu, including ghee, butter, and sweets for Diwali festival

There is an increase in the prices of dairy products in Tamil Nadu, including ghee, butter, and various sweets, which occurred ahead of the Diwali festival. The regional government announced a significant rise in the cost of the products.

The main source of this increase is the brand Aavin, which has raised prices across its entire range. Aavin is a well-known dairy brand in Tamil Nadu and operates under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited (TCMPF). This organization purchases milk from farmers through cooperatives and sells finished dairy products.

This price hike is the first such adjustment initiated by the Tamil Nadu government under the leadership of Talapathy Vijay (TVK Govt). Following the announcement of price increases for Aavin products, consumers will have to pay more for ghee, butter, yogurt, lassi, as well as sweets and biscuits made from these products. The new rates come into effect on October 28, 2026.

Specifically, regarding Aavin brand ghee, the 100 ml pack, which previously cost 80 rupees, will now be sold for 95 rupees. For the 200 ml pack, the price has also risen from the previous 160 rupees to 180 rupees.

As for butter, the 100-gram yogurt pack, which previously cost 60 rupees, will now cost 10 rupees more, reaching 70 rupees after the recent price adjustment. Additionally, new rates have been set for other dairy products.

The price increase did not only affect the aforementioned dairy products. It is also expected that the price rise will be reflected in sweets intended for Diwali. The brand has increased the cost of its sweets and biscuits.
