Zydus Lifesciences' net profit in the second quarter decreased by 26.6% to 925.5 crore rupees

Zydus Lifesciences reported a 26.6% decline in consolidated net profit for the September quarter, reaching 925.5 crore rupees, which was attributed to increased expenses. In the corresponding period last fiscal year, the company reported a net profit of 1,260.9 crore rupees, according to regulatory filings submitted to the stock exchanges.

For the reporting quarter, operating revenue increased to 7,909.6 crore rupees compared to 6,123.2 crore rupees a year earlier. However, Zydus's total expenses rose significantly, amounting to 6,806.6 crore rupees in the current quarter, whereas they were 4,509 crore rupees in the same period last year.

During this quarter, the pharmaceutical business accounted for 83% of the company's sales. Notably, the prescription drug division in India generated revenue of 1,884.4 crore rupees, showing an 18% year-on-year growth. The North American prescription drug business generated revenue of 3,314.5 crore rupees, demonstrating a 21% growth, resulting from sustained expansion of the core business volume and the ongoing scaling of the American specialty segment.

Zydus Lifesciences Managing Director, Sharvil Patel, noted that the second-quarter results reflect a strong overall momentum led by branded segments in India, international markets, and the wellness sector. He emphasized that the share of branded product sales in the US grew to 16%, indicating the company's systematic shift towards a more differentiated portfolio focused on specialized products. Patel added that the company expects approval and launch of Saroglitazar in the US, which is the first domestic discovery of a new chemical entity (NCE) and marks a significant milestone in its development.

Furthermore, for the period from April to September of the 2027 fiscal year, the pharmaceutical company's net profit decreased by 30.86% to 1,885.9 crore rupees compared to 2,727.7 crore rupees a year earlier. KPIT Technologies' profit decreased by 29% in the second quarter of fiscal year 27

KPIT Technologies reported a nearly 29% drop in consolidated net profit, amounting to 121 crore rupees, for the second quarter ending in September. The main reason for this decline was pressure on the automotive market from Chinese manufacturers, which slowed down deal closures.

In the same period last year, the company demonstrated a net profit of 169 crore rupees. KPIT management expects losses to begin decreasing starting from the third quarter.

Forecasts and Market Trends

Sachin Tikekar, Co-founder and Joint Managing Director of KPIT Technologies, noted that a significant profit decline was observed among two of the company's largest clients—one in Europe and another in Japan. He expressed confidence that these contracts will hit a bottom within the next few quarters, possibly two or three. Nevertheless, he forecasts gradual growth among existing OEM clients in the passenger car, truck, and SUV segments.

In the reporting quarter, KPIT Technologies' consolidated revenue from operations increased by 6.5% to 1,691 crore rupees, compared to 1,588 crore rupees the previous year. However, revenue from the passenger car segment fell by 7.8% year-on-year to USD 132.36 million (approximately 1,260 crore rupees). Meanwhile, commercial vehicle segment revenue grew by 27.3% to USD 39.98 million (nearly 375 crore rupees).

Tikekar stated that the company's prospects look more encouraging. He highlighted nervousness among European passenger car manufacturers, which is leading to a slowdown in the decision-making process. Although the company is winning many new orders, the pace of decision-making remains slightly slow; however, in his opinion, the situation is moving in the right direction, confirming the effectiveness of the adopted strategy.

He also pointed to the immense pressure being exerted on European passenger car manufacturers regarding sales, which continue to decline, as well as on their margins. According to him, companies are forced to implement cost-cutting initiatives, which will likely continue for several more quarters. This pressure is driven by competition they face in China, as well as competition from China in other regions, including Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and others.

The total contract value secured by the company in the reporting quarter amounted to USD 213 million (about 2,026 crore rupees). Tikekar added that American OEMs are in a relatively protected position because most of their revenue comes from America. He noted that Japanese manufacturers are also in a better position, as America and Japan are two of their largest markets. Although there is some decline in indicators for Japanese, Korean, and American companies, it is minor compared to what European OEMs are experiencing.

In contrast, the situation in India for passenger cars is drastically different, as this market is the fastest growing. Tikekar noted that both local Indian OEMs and some foreign players are gaining momentum. Growth is observed particularly in Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Tata Motors, Hyundai, and Kia, while the position of Chinese and Vietnamese companies is noticeably strengthening in the electric vehicle segment.

Maruti Suzuki India's net profit fell by 26.36% in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027

Automotive market leader, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, reported on Tuesday a 26.36% decline in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter ending in September. The profit amounted to 2,466.1 crore rupees. This decrease occurred despite revenue growth, which was driven by record car sales volumes during the quarter; however, it was caused by increased raw material costs linked to the Middle East conflict.

According to regulatory filings, the company recorded a net profit of 3,349 crore rupees in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. For the period from July to September, total operating revenue increased to 53,355.5 crore rupees compared to 42,344.2 crore rupees in the same period of the 2025-26 fiscal year, as stated in the company's reports.

Total expenses for July-September also rose to 50,619 crore rupees compared to 39,018.4 crore rupees a year earlier. Furthermore, the cost of materials consumed in the second quarter grew to 37,488.5 crore rupees from 25,324.2 crore rupees in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

Financial Performance Details

In its statement, Maruti Suzuki India specified that the operating profit (EBIT) for this quarter reached 2,803.7 crore rupees, whereas it was 3,382 crore rupees in Q2 FY25-26. This reduction is attributed to rising raw material prices due to the Middle East conflict. Nevertheless, compared to Q1 FY26-27, there was a consistent growth of 10.8%. However, non-operating income sharply decreased in the second quarter due to losses from investment surplus valuation.

The company announced achieving an all-time high quarterly sales volume of 696,654 units, representing a 26.5% increase compared to the same period last year. The company's growth in the domestic passenger vehicle market was extensive: small car sales increased by 35.9%, and SUV sales increased by 68.2%. Newly launched company SUVs received a strong market response, contributing to such sustained growth.

Maruti Suzuki India reported that its domestic market share increased by 2.2 percentage points, reaching 40.8%. The company noted that the recent increase in production capacity allowed it to meet high demand. Despite the expansion of production capabilities, demand continued to outstrip supply, leading to a low network inventory of about 17 days and pending bookings of approximately 200,000 units by the end of the quarter.

In export markets, despite the complex geopolitical situation, the company managed to ship 108,119 units in Q2 FY 2026-27, compared to 110,487 units in Q2 FY25-26.
