JD.com receives conditional EU approval to acquire Ceconomy for $2.5 billion

JD.com has received conditional approval from the European Union to purchase the German electronics retailer Ceconomy for $2.5 billion. The Chinese company plans to complete the deal by November 12th.

This acquisition will allow JD.com to expand its presence in Europe through Ceconomy's MediaMarkt and Saturn store networks.

The European Commission reviewed the deal under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation due to concerns about potential support from the Chinese government. To obtain approval, JD.com agreed to conduct all operations with Ceconomy, including financing, on market terms.

Furthermore, JD.com commits to providing third-party retailers access to its warehousing and logistics services under the same terms as those offered to Ceconomy. These steps are aimed at preventing cross-subsidization of its European operations.
