Despite significant capital, no debt, and passive income, many employees in the information technology sector are concerned about job stability. One 34-year-old IT specialist shared his worries, stemming from trends of company downsizing and the growing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI).
This specialist has 12 years of experience, about nine of which were dedicated to QA and automated testing. He currently works in the telecommunications sector and has experience using Postman Automation. He noted that for the last three years, he has been in a state of 'quiet quitting': he fulfills his work duties on time but does not exert extra effort to gain promotions, awards, or recognition.
He stated on social media that after completing his tasks, he is uninterested in taking on additional workload. Notably, although coding does not excite him, he easily handles technical problem-solving using AI-based tools. He developed two migration tools for a client using an AI assistant, which function successfully in the production environment. This experience prompted him to consider alternatives to full corporate employment, such as freelancing and automation consulting, exploring possibilities for self-employment with the help of AI.
According to his post, his liquid capital is approximately 95 lakh rupees. His investment portfolio is distributed roughly 55% in equities and 45% in debt instruments. He has no outstanding loans and lives with his parents. His monthly salary, including PF contributions, is estimated at about 1.45 lakh rupees. Additionally, he receives passive income from investments and other sources amounting to 35–40 thousand rupees monthly.
The family's monthly expenses amount to about 65–70 thousand rupees. The specialist's parents are also financially secure, receiving a monthly income of about 1.05 lakh rupees. Nevertheless, he is concerned about potential future increases in medical and healthcare expenses for his parents. The family also possesses about 700 grams of gold.
Despite high capital and no debts, the IT specialist is anxious about job instability. This concern is related not only to his current salary but also to doubts about the possibility of continuing his career in the corporate sector long-term. His story emerged amid active discussions about layoffs in the IT sector, the use of AI, and changing skill requirements. He did not report losing his job, but merely expressed concerns about possible future redundancies and his career path in the corporate environment.
Following his social media post, a discussion began regarding economic freedom and employment guarantees. Some users pointed out that the anxiety about job security with 12 years of experience reflects the current market situation. Others advised employees not to rely solely on one job but to prepare backup income options using their skills.
