The cotton harvest in Uzbekistan has reached the mark of 5 million tons, marking the first such result since gaining independence. Harvesting is ongoing, and further volume growth is expected.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture, the cotton harvest in Uzbekistan in 2026 amounted to 5 million tons. This figure is the highest recorded since 1991.
For comparison, according to data from the National Statistical Committee, 2 million 938 thousand tons of cotton raw material were produced in the republic in 2024. Thus, over two years, the harvest volume increased by more than 2 million tons or 70 percent.
In 1991, 4 million 646 thousand tons of cotton were collected in Uzbekistan. Archival data from the International Monetary Fund shows that in that year, cotton was grown on an area of 1.72 million hectares.
In 2026, the area of cotton fields was 889.5 thousand hectares. This means that the harvest was collected on almost half the territory compared to 35 years ago, yet a larger volume was obtained.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, about 3 thousand machines have been involved in collecting cotton this season. As of October 22, 76 percent of the harvest was collected using these machines.
Currently, the collection and processing of cotton are not finished, and some harvest remains in the fields. Therefore, it is expected that the total figure will exceed 5 million tons by the end of the season.
