Dating and romantic chatbot apps will have an 18+ age rating on the iPhone App Store

Starting this month, app creators available on the iPhone App Store must specify whether their programs contain features related to relationships or romantic interactions. Services presenting this type of interactivity will be required to have a minimum age rating of 18 years.

This change also covers real-time location sharing features, whose age range may vary depending on each country's regulations. Specifically in Brazil, Apple has established that such apps will receive a minimum A16 rating, while dating apps will be categorized as A18.

The modifications may impact large platforms, such as Facebook, which was previously rated as not recommended for those under 16. Meta's main product includes a dedicated 'Dating' section, allowing users to meet and schedule dates with other network members.

These changes have been incorporated into the App Store Connect age rating form. The first new criterion, called 'Dating and Relationships', encompasses both apps that connect individuals for dating purposes and services that offer virtual companions capable of sustaining romantic or sexual conversations.

A second descriptor introduced is 'Shared Location', intended for apps that allow sharing geographical position with a specific user or group. In this context, apps like WhatsApp, currently indicated for ages 14 and over, may be affected. It is important to note that the messenger has parental control settings that prevent location sharing with third parties.

In Brazil, the new age rating guidelines, updated by Ordinance No. 1.048 issued by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), already include geolocation sharing in the minimum age assessment.

Both the MJSP and Apple recognize situations where the general rule may not reflect the true function of the application, citing child monitoring services as an example. In these scenarios, the developer has the option to request an official rating from the competent body, which will be displayed in the App Store.

The new fields will be integrated into the questionnaire on November 16. From this date, developers must enter this new information when submitting an app update or modifying an existing age rating.

All apps in the store will have a deadline of January 12, 2027, to provide the necessary declarations. This change is part of a broader review of the App Store's age rating system, aiming to ensure that the recommended age for each app considers specific features, such as dating, virtual companions, and location sharing.

The six offers cover distinct technology categories, and the ideal choice depends on consumer needs. For those who want to enter the iPhone ecosystem with Dynamic Island, USB-C, and a 48MP camera without paying the price of a Pro model, the iPhone 15 128GB, for R$ 3,779 via Pix (37% discount), offers substantial savings of R$ 2,220. Regarding the main 55" Smart TV, the Samsung U8600F, for less than R$ 2,600 (15% discount), brings the new Crystal UHD line with Vision AI and Stadium Mode for sporting events. For a primary portable notebook intended for work and study, the Galaxy Book4 i5, for less than R$ 3,900 (33% discount, saving R$ 1,905), presents an ultrabook design of 1.55kg and integration with the Samsung smartphone. As for the first cordless vertical vacuum cleaner, the Electrolux ERG019 (27% discount) guarantees Electrolux quality with consolidated assistance in Brazil, featuring a lithium battery and HEPA filter. For the original Microsoft gamer controller, the Xbox Series X|S Carbon Black (46% discount) is the best-seller in Brazil, with over 70 thousand reviews. Finally, the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active (46% discount) is the best fitness tracker currently available, featuring AMOLED, phone GPS, 18 days of battery, and 5 ATM, costing less than R$ 155.

The final decision depends on the budget. The iPhone 15 128GB (offer of R$ 3,779 via Pix) offers the essentials of a modern iPhone: A16 Bionic chip, Dynamic Island, 48MP Fusion camera, USB-C, IP68, and MagSafe. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 128GB (starting from R$ 4,600) incorporates the A18 chip with Apple Intelligence, a camera with Physical Camera Control, Action Button, and Visual Intelligence. The iPhone 17 256GB (starting from R$ 5,700) will bring the A19 chip, ProMotion 120Hz (innovation in the standard line), 3,000 nits HDR, Ceramic Shield 2, and Wi-Fi 7. To maximize savings when entering the iPhone ecosystem, the iPhone 15 is the most advantageous; however, for those seeking Apple Intelligence and a camera button, the iPhone 16 is more suitable.

If the priority is the television, the Samsung U8600F (offer of R$ 2,563) stands out for presenting Vision AI 2025, Stadium Mode, refined Tizen OS, and Samsung Gaming Hub, representing the latest Samsung Crystal UHD line. Conversely, the LG UQ80 55" (starting from R$ 2,400) offers an IPS panel with wide viewing angles and fluid webOS 23, making it more suitable for large environments. The TCL 55C7L QD-Mini LED (starting from R$ 2,800) features a premium QD-Mini LED panel, superior in HDR and colors, ideal for cinema enthusiasts. Therefore, for the new Samsung with Vision AI, the U8600F is the winner; but for HDR and color references, the TCL QD-Mini LED justifies a higher investment.

In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 (offer of R$ 3,894) excels with the 13th generation Intel i5, 8GB DDR5, 512GB SSD, Iris Xe, Wi-Fi 6E, Thunderbolt 4, a weight of 1.55kg, and integration with the Samsung Galaxy Ecosystem. Compared to the HP 256R G9 (starting from R$ 3,999), which offers more RAM (16GB DDR4) but less storage (256GB SSD), the ASUS Vivobook 15 i5 (starting from R$ 4,299) has 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, in addition to MIL-STD-810H military certification. For those prioritizing premium portability, Thunderbolt 4, and Galaxy integration, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 is the best choice; while those needing native 16GB of RAM, the HP or ASUS are valid alternatives.

Considering the budget for vacuums, the Electrolux ERG019 (offer of R$ 695) offers cyclonic technology, 2-in-1 functionality, HEPA filter, and 40 minutes of autonomy with a removable lithium battery, characterizing an accessible mid-range quality. In contrast, the Dyson V8 (starting from R$ 2,800) has 115,000 RPM Hyperdymium suction, 60 minutes of autonomy, and premium brushes for pet hair, being an absolute benchmark, although four times more expensive. The Mondial Power Blow 2 in 1 (starting from R$ 450) has similar power but lacks the HEPA filter, being more basic. For those looking for a first cordless vertical vacuum with Electrolux quality and good cost-benefit, the ERG019 is the best option; but for homes with pets and long hair, the Dyson compensates for the additional cost.

Regarding the ecosystem, the Xbox Series X|S Carbon Black Controller (offer of R$ 319 via Pix) combines Bluetooth + Xbox Wireless, broad compatibility with Xbox, PC, Android, iOS, and Steam Deck, non-slip grip, hybrid D-pad, and adaptive trigger. Meanwhile, the PS5 DualSense (starting from R$ 450) offers advanced haptic feedback and true adaptive triggers, but the text was cut before finishing the comparison.

Apple tests iPhone Duo 2 prototypes with under-display Face ID on the outer screen

Apple is reportedly testing prototypes of the iPhone Duo 2, incorporating the Face ID system hidden beneath the outer screen. This modification would allow the second version of the foldable device to regain biometric recognition present in conventional iPhones, eliminating the need for a larger cutout on the display.

The news was reported on Thursday, October 22, by journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. According to him, the launch of this model is projected to occur between September and December 2027.

The initial iPhone Duo model used Touch ID integrated into the side button, following an approach similar to that used in the iPad Air and iPad mini. The choice of fingerprint reader was due to the limited internal space in the thin foldable design, which drew criticism in early reviews conducted in the United States. The website 9to5Mac pointed out that returning to the side button felt like a step backward after years of using facial recognition.

In the prototypes mentioned by Gurman, the components responsible for facial authentication are located under the outer screen. This would allow Apple to implement Face ID without adding a large cutout to the panel. The tests also suggest that Apple may accelerate its timelines. Previously, Gurman estimated that Face ID and a telephoto camera would only appear in the third generation of the Duo in September.

It is worth noting that Apple has been investing for years in methods to conceal Face ID components. For example, the iPhone 18 Pro uses an infrared camera positioned under the display, a technology that helped reduce the size of the Dynamic Island.

While Apple evaluates the supposed next generation, the first iPhone Duo began to be officially made available to consumers this Friday, October 23. In Brazil, the foldable starts at a price of R$ 21,999 for the 256 GB configuration. The 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB versions are quoted at R$ 23,499, R$ 26,499, and R$ 30,999, respectively.

Due to high demand, delivery times have been extended; some orders may not arrive until January 2027. Apple started pre-orders in the country on October 16, one week before the official launch. The first Duo features 5.4 and 7.6-inch screens, equipped with the A20 Pro chip and two 48-megapixel rear cameras, with the second generation expected in 2027.
