Mohammad Amir will not participate in the IPL 2027 auction despite British citizenship

Hopes for Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir's participation in the IPL have been dashed. Although speculation arose about him playing in the world's largest T20 league after obtaining British citizenship, Amir himself has denied these rumors. He stated that he will not register his name for the IPL 2027 auction.

According to Cricbuzz, the 34-year-old left-arm fast bowler decided to step away from the upcoming IPL auction. Amir confirmed this in a message sent to Cricbuzz from Dubai, where he explicitly stated: 'No, I will not register for the auction.'

Speculation surrounding his potential IPL appearance intensified after Amir acquired British citizenship in May 2026. This was particularly significant due to restrictions on the participation of Pakistani players in the IPL, making the acquisition of a British passport a key factor for him.

Recently, Amir participated in local T20 competitions in England. He played for Notts Outlaws and The Hundred as part of Nottinghamshire and Trent Rockets, respectively. In these tournaments, he played as a local player, which eliminated the need to occupy an overseas player slot.

Furthermore, Amir registered his name in the Afghan Premier League (APL) draft as a British citizen. He was placed in the platinum division, with his country of residence listed as Pakistan. This raised questions about finding new opportunities for him in franchise cricket.

Amir also confirmed that he will return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) next year, but this time he will play as an overseas player rather than a Pakistani one.

Mohammad Amir concluded his international cricket career in 2024. For the Pakistan national team, he played 36 Test matches, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20 Internationals. He was part of the Pakistani team that won the T20 World Cup in 2009 and also played a crucial role in Pakistan's victory in the 2017 Cricket World Cup.

After obtaining British citizenship, Amir was compared to former Pakistani all-rounder Azhar Mahmood. Azhar Mahmood played for Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL from 2012 to 2015 after obtaining a British passport. Nevertheless, Amir has decided to refrain from seeking IPL opportunities at this time.

Hardik Pandya may move from Mumbai Indians to Punjab Kings in a major IPL player swap

Ahead of the mini-auction and the IPL 2027 player retention deadline, significant news is emerging regarding the transfer market. According to media reports, Hardik Pandya, captain and star all-rounder for Mumbai Indians, could potentially play in the red jersey of Punjab Kings, which belongs to Preeti Jinte.

Negotiations for the swap deal between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians have progressed significantly, and the sensational deal is considered almost complete. An official announcement is expected in the near future.

According to Sportstar, Punjab Kings, under the leadership of Ricky Ponting, is very keen to acquire a player like Hardik Pandya, who is an all-rounder capable of deciding the match. However, to get Hardik, Punjab must make substantial concessions.

As part of this swap deal, Indian stars—fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and explosive veteran player Vishnu Vinod—will join Mumbai Indians. It is worth noting that the initial swap offer was put forward by a senior official of Mumbai Indians, after which Punjab Kings agreed to move forward with the deal.

Mumbai needed a high-quality Indian fast bowler and a reliable veteran player to support Jasprit Bumrah in their squad, and this deal appears to fully satisfy that need. The player retention deadline is approaching—November 17, and the top management of both franchises has practically reached an agreement on documentation and approval.

Now, only the official clearance from the IPL governing body remains. If everything goes according to plan, both teams could officially announce this deal by the end of this week. If this deal materializes, it will become one of the most unexpected and largest player swap deals in IPL history.

Mahi hinted at his future in IPL 2027: decision depends on medical check-up results

Uncertainty surrounds the future of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) provided important information regarding his potential participation in the IPL 2027 season. According to Dhoni, the decision on his involvement in the next season will be made after undergoing fitness tests.

He stated that he will assess his physical condition before December to determine how ready he is to play another season. During an event in Bangalore, when asked about IPL 2027, he said: 'I need to undergo a fitness test. After reviewing the report, I will have to assess by December how ready I am to play another season. If I am not in shape, you need to ensure everything is fixed so this old machine can run well on the road.'

Although MS Dhoni's statement raised hopes among fans, he did not confirm his participation in the next season. His final decision will depend on the results of medical examinations and physical fitness checks. Previously, Dhoni could not participate in IPL 2026 due to injury and physical condition issues. In his absence, CSK's performance was disappointing, and the team failed to reach the playoffs for the third consecutive season.

MS Dhoni also openly commented on the team's recent match. He noted: 'I always believed that how good your team looks on paper is not as important. The most important thing is how you play on that specific day. In a short format like T20, the difference between top teams is very small. We have been fighting for the last two years, and that is an undeniable truth.'

MS Dhoni also highly praised the performances of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) over the last two seasons, acknowledging that CSK also needs to achieve consistency. He said: 'RCB has shown impressive play in recent years, whereas we have not been able to do so. Every team has good and bad days, but the real test comes when things don't go according to plan. At such times, it is important to see in which areas the team can improve.'

Discussing the future plans of Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni emphasized the importance of preventing injuries and ensuring the availability of physically fit players throughout the tournament. He added: 'I hope we can avoid injuries, and our players who are in shape will be available throughout the tournament. This will make it easier for the team to fulfill its role and responsibilities.'

Now all attention is focused on MS Dhoni's fitness assessment, which will take place before December. Only then will it become clear whether Mahi will return to the yellow jersey of Chennai in IPL 2027.

Amit Mishra appointed spin coach for Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2027

Delhi Capitals have made significant changes to their coaching staff in anticipation of IPL 2027, appointing veteran Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra as the spin bowling coach. Mishra, who previously confused batsmen with his rotation and guile, will now work in a coaching role.

Delhi Capitals published a video dedicated to Mishra's appointment, in which he recalls his long association with Delhi. He noted that his first season in Delhi was as a player, and now his first season as a coach will also be with this team. In the video, Mishra stated: 'The tiger never leaves its prey, and Delhi is its heartbeat.'

Amit Mishra played in the IPL from 2008 to 2024. His debut for the Indian team took place in 2003 under Saurav Ganguly. In the current Delhi Capitals squad, Saurav Ganguly is appointed as the head coach, while Yuvraj Singh will take on the duties of assistant and batting coach. Additionally, Chaminda Vaas has been named the fast bowling coach.

During his time in the IPL, Mishra played 162 matches and scored 174 runs. He took three hat-tricks: one against Deccan Chargers in 2008 for Delhi Daredevils, a second against Kings Eleven Punjab in 2011 for Deccan Chargers, and a third against Pune Warriors in 2013 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Mishra announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on September 4, 2025. He was known for his diverse bowling style and excellent control. The three hat-tricks in the IPL are a unique achievement for him in this tournament.

At the age of 43, Amit Mishra played 22 Test matches, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20 Internationals for the Indian team. In total, he scored 156 runs at the international level. Although his last international match was in 2017, he remained active in club and domestic cricket. His last IPL game was in 2024 for Lucknow Super Giants against Rajasthan Royals, where he took one wicket and conceded 20 runs.

On his social media, Mishra expressed deep gratitude to the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, his coaches, support staff, colleagues, and most importantly, the fans for their support. He noted that cricket gave him everything, and now he wants to repay the debt to the sport that shaped him as an athlete and a person.

This new phase for Amit Mishra at Delhi Capitals is particularly important as he returns to the team where he spent one season in the IPL. His task now is to help improve the spin bowlers' performance of the team and share his extensive experience.
