Automotive market leader, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, reported on Tuesday a 26.36% decline in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter ending in September. The profit amounted to 2,466.1 crore rupees. This decrease occurred despite revenue growth, which was driven by record car sales volumes during the quarter; however, it was caused by increased raw material costs linked to the Middle East conflict.
According to regulatory filings, the company recorded a net profit of 3,349 crore rupees in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. For the period from July to September, total operating revenue increased to 53,355.5 crore rupees compared to 42,344.2 crore rupees in the same period of the 2025-26 fiscal year, as stated in the company's reports.
Total expenses for July-September also rose to 50,619 crore rupees compared to 39,018.4 crore rupees a year earlier. Furthermore, the cost of materials consumed in the second quarter grew to 37,488.5 crore rupees from 25,324.2 crore rupees in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.
Financial Performance Details
In its statement, Maruti Suzuki India specified that the operating profit (EBIT) for this quarter reached 2,803.7 crore rupees, whereas it was 3,382 crore rupees in Q2 FY25-26. This reduction is attributed to rising raw material prices due to the Middle East conflict. Nevertheless, compared to Q1 FY26-27, there was a consistent growth of 10.8%. However, non-operating income sharply decreased in the second quarter due to losses from investment surplus valuation.
The company announced achieving an all-time high quarterly sales volume of 696,654 units, representing a 26.5% increase compared to the same period last year. The company's growth in the domestic passenger vehicle market was extensive: small car sales increased by 35.9%, and SUV sales increased by 68.2%. Newly launched company SUVs received a strong market response, contributing to such sustained growth.
Maruti Suzuki India reported that its domestic market share increased by 2.2 percentage points, reaching 40.8%. The company noted that the recent increase in production capacity allowed it to meet high demand. Despite the expansion of production capabilities, demand continued to outstrip supply, leading to a low network inventory of about 17 days and pending bookings of approximately 200,000 units by the end of the quarter.
In export markets, despite the complex geopolitical situation, the company managed to ship 108,119 units in Q2 FY 2026-27, compared to 110,487 units in Q2 FY25-26.
