Engineer Earning 2.95 Lakh Rupees from Two Jobs Receives Offer for 43.5 Lakh Rupees in Bangalore

In the modern world, securing a good job and a high salary is a dream for many people. However, a complex situation arises when an individual already has two remote jobs bringing in a monthly income of about 2.95 lakh rupees. A software engineer found himself conflicted after receiving a job offer with a fixed annual salary of 43.5 lakh rupees from a company in Bangalore. The new position offers a high salary but requires him to quit both current jobs and relocate to Bangalore.

He shared his dilemma on the Reddit platform, which sparked active discussion among users.

The engineer informed users on the r/developersIndia forum that he has about 11 years of experience in this field. Currently, he holds two remote positions that collectively bring him about 2.95 lakh rupees per month.

According to his data, the annual CTC for the first job is 27 lakh rupees, but due to the application of the Loss of Pay (LOP) rule for remote work, he receives about 70 thousand rupees net each month. The second remote job has an annual CTC of 30 lakh rupees, providing him with about 2.25 lakh rupees net monthly. Thus, the total monthly income from both jobs reaches approximately 2.95 lakh rupees, and he does not need to change cities because of the remote work format.

Meanwhile, the engineer received an offer from a company in Bangalore with a fixed annual CTC of 43.5 lakh rupees. Additionally, there is an annual variable bonus of up to 4.35 lakh rupees. However, what concerns the engineer is the hybrid model of the new job, which requires visiting the office three days a week.

The engineer calculated that, including the variable component, he could earn about 2.9 lakh rupees net monthly, although the exact net profit from the fixed salary is not yet clear. Accepting this position means having to resign from both current jobs, especially the second remote job, which he believes cannot be combined with the new one.

The problem is not limited to salary issues; for the new job, he would have to move to Bangalore, where expenses for rent, travel, food, and other daily necessities would increase. He estimated that living in Bangalore would cost about 50 thousand rupees per month, including 25–30 thousand rupees for rent, with the remaining amount going towards travel, groceries, and other necessary expenses. According to his calculations, with a net income of 2.9 lakh rupees, about 2.4 lakh rupees would remain after covering these expenses, excluding other family obligations.

The engineer also mentioned his responsibilities, such as his daughter's future, caring for his mother, and his sister's upcoming wedding, making the decision to change jobs difficult based solely on salary.

Questions arose on social media regarding the feasibility of holding two jobs simultaneously. Reddit users asked how he managed to work at two places at once without facing background check issues. One user asked how he manages information about working at two companies and PF records. The engineer replied that his private company is registered, and the salary is deposited into the same account.

User opinions on the engineer's post were divided. Some advised him to accept the Bangalore offer, arguing that combining two jobs can be risky, and it is better to choose a stable position. Others noted that since the current setup yields about 2.95 lakh rupees monthly and allows for remote work, moving cities for roughly the same net income does not seem economically advantageous. Some commentators also advised him to try negotiating a higher salary with the new company.

As of now, the engineer has not made a final decision on whether to continue working in two remote positions or accept the offer from Bangalore. His difficulty lies in the fact that the new job might give his career a certain direction, but the city change and family responsibilities could negatively affect his savings.

Software Engineer's Doubts About Career Due to Low Salary and Job Instability in Tech Sector

Despite years of study, project creation, and interview preparation to become a software engineer, job security is absent, and job stability after obtaining the position is not guaranteed. Amid layoffs in the technology industry, growing competition, and the increasing influence of artificial intelligence (AI), one software engineer has questioned their career decision. Following the publication of this post on social media, a discussion began about how safe and attractive a career in technology remains.

A technical specialist named Aisha shared her opinion on the social network X. She ponders whether pursuing software engineering was the right choice. According to Aisha, people spend years mastering technical skills, developing projects, and preparing for interviews. Nevertheless, they have to compete with thousands of candidates for a single vacancy. Moreover, there is no certainty that the job will be retained the next day after getting it. She also questions the point of all the effort if the job can disappear at any moment.

User opinions in response to Aisha's post were varied. One user expressed understanding of her concern but simultaneously raised the question of whether similar salaries could be obtained in other sectors. This user noted that software engineering offers good earning potential, but difficulties are also increasing in this field. Furthermore, the use of artificial intelligence raises questions about whether high salaries associated with application development can be maintained in the long term. Another user found the uncertainty about job permanence exhausting. At the same time, one user pointed to civil service as a more stable alternative.

Growing Anxiety Among Tech Company Employees Due to AI and Layoffs

Software engineering was long considered a field with good pay and career growth opportunities. However, the growing application of AI, companies' attempts to reduce costs, and layoff reports have intensified concerns among people working in this sector. Thus, Aisha's post reflects not only the personal doubts of one individual about their career but also a nationwide discussion about the safety and future of work in the technology industry. It should be noted, however, that this opinion, expressed on social media, does not allow for the conclusion that career opportunities in software engineering are disappearing.

Friend's advice: Should you change jobs for a salary increase in Pune or stay in the city with lower expenses?

When an offer for a high-paying job appears, most people view it as an opportunity for career growth. However, one social media post raised the question of whether an increase in income automatically improves the quality of life.

In this post, one software engineer shared his friend's situation. His friend earns 84 thousand rupees per month in a Tier-2 city. He received a job offer in Pune with a salary of 1.25 lakh rupees per month. Despite this, the friend advised against changing jobs immediately and suggested trying to get a raise in his current city.

A person named Jaideep shared this story on the platform X. He stated that his friend lives in a Tier-2 city and earns 84 thousand rupees monthly. Since he owns his own home there, he does not have to spend on rent. According to Jaideep, the standard of living in the current city is more economical: costs for food, groceries, and children's education are lower. Furthermore, he spends less time in traffic jams, allowing him to save more money each month.

In his post, Jaideep continued by explaining that if his friend accepts the job offer in Pune, living expenses will increase compared to the Tier-2 city. According to his estimates, renting a good two-bedroom apartment (2 BHK flat) could cost between 20 to 30 thousand rupees. Food and groceries might take 12–20 thousand rupees, while utilities like electricity, water, internet, and mobile communication would cost 3–5 thousand rupees. Additionally, transportation and fuel would require 5–10 thousand rupees, and entertainment outside the home and miscellaneous needs would range from 8 to 15 thousand rupees. Thus, the total additional monthly expenses could be approximately 50 to 80 thousand rupees, although actual costs depend on the area and lifestyle.

Jaideep emphasized that the decision to change jobs should not be based solely on the salary amount. Although moving to Pune with a salary of 1.25 lakh rupees will increase his friend's income by 41 thousand rupees, the rise in expenses in the new city might negate this increase. He also noted that if a raise of 15–20 thousand rupees is possible at his current company, the income can be increased without changing residence. In his words, before making a decision, one must calculate how much money will remain after deducting all expenses with the higher salary.

Social media users reacted to this post, sharing their opinions. Some agreed with Jaideep's view, noting the importance of considering both living expenses and savings when changing jobs. Other users asked questions about the necessity of also taking into account the better career opportunities and potential salary growth offered by Pune.

Discussion of Corporate Life Issues: Influencers Are Quitting or Facing Termination Due to Social Media Activity

In the modern world, many technology specialists simultaneously build their reputation on social media by openly sharing opinions about technology, careers, and company working methods. However, such candor can sometimes create difficulties within corporate employment. The post by technical specialist Bhuvnesh Arya discussed exactly this situation.

According to Arya, in order to gain the trust of his social media audience, he has to expose the discrepancy between the glossy picture of the corporate world and the actual experience of employees. He also questions the trends and hype occurring in the technology industry. On the other hand, companies expect employees to exercise caution when making public comments regarding internal policies and organizational affairs.

Thus, a conflict may arise between the personal identity created on social media and the role a person plays in the company. Nevertheless, this does not mean that every tech influencer is forced to quit or face termination because of their posts; it is merely a viewpoint presented by Arya and not a universal rule.

As the influence of social media grows, many professionals share their experience and expertise online, which helps them build their brand and gain new opportunities. At the same time, it is crucial to adhere to company policy, protect confidential information, and fulfill professional duties while working.

Arya's post raises the question of whether an employee can openly criticize the company's activities or industry statements while working there. According to him, tension can arise when the online audience values candid opinions, but the company requires its employees to limit public commentary.
