The Labkhand Theater complex in Tehran will host the musical 'The Story of My Life'. This intimate musical production is designed for two performers, with music and lyrics by Neil Bartram and the book written by Bryan Hill. The premiere is scheduled for November 8th.
Said Honaramuz directed the performance. Human Kiaee and Mojtaba Rajabi Memar are part of the cast, according to ILNA agency.
The plot tells the story of two childhood friends, whose relationship is shown from the age of six to thirty-five. Successful author Thomas Weaver returns to his hometown to pay tribute to his childhood friend Alvin Kelby but cannot find the right words. Alvin appears as a memory and guides Thomas through the collected stories of their friendship, starting from their first meeting at age six and ending with an argument shortly before Alvin's death. By reviewing these moments, Thomas realizes how deeply his friend, who remains in his hometown, has influenced his life and work.
The show was first presented at the Canadian Theatre in Toronto in the autumn of 2006. In 2009, it had a short run on Broadway at the Booth Theatre.
Although the Broadway version closed after several performances, it received four nominations for the Drama Desk Award in 2009, including awards for Outstanding Musical, as well as for music, lyrics, and book. Due to having only two roles and a small ensemble, the production gained wide popularity in North America, as well as in South Korea and German-speaking countries.
As an actor, Bryan Hill spent three seasons in the Show Festival, received a Dora Award for playing Frank in the original Canadian cast of 'Forever in a Plaid Shirt', and participated in other roles, such as Raul in 'The Phantom of the Opera' and Joe in 'Sunset Boulevard'.
As a director, he was the permanent director of 'The Lion King' in Toronto and on Broadway, as well as an assistant director for the Broadway production of 'The Little Mermaid'; furthermore, he was the original director of early experimental productions of 'Come From Afar'.
As a writer, Hill collaborates with composer Neil Bartram, for example, on 'The Story of My Life', as well as 'Theory of Relativity', 'The Adventures of Pinocchio', 'Something Evil Is Coming This Way', and the stage version of 'Puss in Boots' by Disney. He also wrote a new book for the musical 'October Sky' at the Old Glow Theatre and edited a book for 'The Brigade' at the Goodman Theatre.
The musical 'The Story of My Life' will run at the Labkhand Theater until December 11th. It is located at Taleghani Street, 417, between Naderi Street and Vesal-e Shirazi Street.
