The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the postponement of the upcoming 2027 Saudi Arabian Asian Cup tournament. Following comprehensive discussions and close cooperation with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), it has been confirmed that the event, originally scheduled to take place from January 7 to February 5, 2027, will now be held from December 23, 2027, to January 21, 2028.
The AFC Asian Cup Organizing Committee approved the change in dates for this flagship tournament of national team squads due to current exceptional circumstances arising in the region. These circumstances include significant logistical difficulties and travel disruptions. The new tournament dates will be submitted to FIFA for approval.
It was recognized that organizing and conducting the Competition within the initially planned timeframe became impossible due to the prevailing exceptional circumstances, making the postponement necessary in the interest of all participants, officials, spectators, and stakeholders.
AFC expressed gratitude to SAFF and the LOC for their commitment to hosting a world-class tournament for the Continent's players and fans. AFC will continue to work closely with the LOC, Participating Member Associations, valued sponsors, broadcasting partners, and commercial partners, as well as all stakeholders, to organize a spectacular event worthy of the status and operational excellence inherent to Asia's most prestigious men's national team tournament, while minimizing the impact of the postponement.
Further information will be disseminated through official AFC channels.
