WIC Wuzhen 2026 Summit Opens with Focus on Open Artificial Intelligence

The World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit opened in Uchen City, Zhejiang Province, eastern China, on Tuesday. The event gathered representatives from governments, international organizations, business, and academic circles from around the world.

This year's theme was formulated as 'Open Source and Openness, Collaborative Development and Shared Benefits – Jointly Building a Community with a Common Future in Cyberspace.' The summit places a primary focus on open artificial intelligence, covering areas such as technological innovation, security management, cultural exchange, and international cooperation.

A central element of the main forum was the AI Dialogue in Uchen, which brought together leading global technology companies, executives of open-source large language model companies, and AI scientists to explore ways to create a global ecosystem for open AI. Furthermore, the summit includes 27 subforums dedicated to topics such as cyberspace cooperation within the Global Governance Initiative, theory and policy in the digital and intelligent era, and robotics and embodied intelligence.

International participation was noted in case competitions and technology awards. The call for submissions showcasing outstanding examples of jointly building a community with a common future in cyberspace received 360 applications from 80 countries and regions, with 22 countries participating for the first time. Eleven top cases were selected. Meanwhile, the World Internet Conference awards for innovative science and technology received over 430 applications from 43 countries and regions; eighteen countries and regions presented their work for the first time, and the number of international submissions increased by 21% compared to the previous year. In total, 20 projects were awarded.

Wan Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, expressed his view that WIC will continue to play a significant role in the development of AI in China. He noted that since open source and openness are global in nature, the Uchen Summit can contribute to China's involvement in the global development of AI.

John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA Ltd., stated that the Uchen Summit serves as a platform for exchanging information and uniting ideas on how to create an open internet accessible to all. He added that this year's theme reflects the summit's long-standing commitment to the principle of 'leaving no one behind' and creating opportunities for the future world.

Westlake University Opens World Models Research Center Led by Yu Kai-chen

On October 31, Westlake University opened the World Models Research Center on its Yungu campus in Hangzhou. This center is an interdisciplinary, university-level research platform focused on physical intelligence.

The center will be led by Yu Kai-chen, who is an associate professor and scientific advisor at the university's School of Engineering. Furthermore, Yu Kai-chen is a co-founder and chief scientist at the AI company KMind. Jin Yaochu, a professor of artificial intelligence and head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, has also been appointed as chief scientist, while several leading researchers will head specific research directions.

According to the university, the center's activities are aimed at transitioning artificial intelligence from language understanding to interaction with the physical world. The main focus will be on world models, as well as addressing what are considered key bottlenecks: how intelligent systems learn the laws of physics, predict environmental changes, and make decisions while interacting with them.

The plan includes studying systems that integrate perception, cognition, prediction, and action, as well as developing a general world model capable of understanding physics, predicting the consequences of actions, and continuously learning from real-world feedback. To achieve this goal, the center will attract researchers from various fields to connect fundamental theory, key technologies, and practical applications.

Yu received his bachelor's degree from the University of Hong Kong in 2016 and his Ph.D. from EPFL in 2021. He worked at Intel, Abacus.AI, and the DAMO Academy of Alibaba, where his work on BEVFusion for fusing LiDAR and camera data gained widespread recognition. After joining Westlake in 2023, he founded the Autonomous Intelligence Laboratory, known as AutoLab, to create world models for autonomous systems.

At the end of 2024, his team shifted from pixel-level generative world models towards a so-called conceptual world model, which represents physical concepts in an abstract latent space instead of rendering pixels. In January 2026, Yu spun off this research into a startup in Hangzhou called Awomo.

The university has not yet named other leading researchers or announced the center's initial projects.

Bengaluru Tech Summit 2026 to Showcase New Technologies, Markets, and Opportunities Beyond AI

For technology entrepreneurs, the ability to stay ahead requires looking beyond the immediate business environment. New technologies emerge rapidly, industries merge, and opportunities for partnerships, investments, and market expansion are often found at the intersection of various ecosystems.

This makes technological platforms that bring together enterprises, innovators, investors, researchers, and global tech communities particularly valuable. The Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) 2026, taking place from November 17 to 19 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, is one such important platform.

The XXIX edition of BTS will gather technology companies, startups, investors, research institutes, and global tech ecosystems from a wide range of sectors. The presence of global tech giants, Indian conglomerates, unicorns, and near-unicorns creates an environment where entrepreneurs can gain a broader understanding of their industry's direction and identify potential business connections.

The international aspect is also highly significant. Tech communities from over 75 countries, including Sweden, Italy, Australia, Poland, the USA, Israel, Spain, Japan, China, Germany, and South Korea, will participate in the exhibition, conferences, and special events.

This opens up opportunities for companies or startups seeking to understand international markets, explore collaboration possibilities, or simply expand their technological network beyond India's borders.

The co-location of Embedded World India, organized by Nuernberg Messe India, highlights embedded technologies at BTS 2026. As embedded systems increasingly form the basis of applications in electronics, automotive, industrial technology, and connected devices, their presence adds another crucial dimension to the technological landscape presented at the summit.

Artificial intelligence and robotics will take center stage at BTS 2026 thanks to the AI and Robotics Pavilion, curated by Bharat fi.AI, showcasing new innovations and advancements shaping the future of these transformative technologies.

For startups and emerging businesses, BTS 2026 offers opportunities far beyond the exhibition hall. Through workshops, masterclasses, mentoring sessions, presentation and product launch opportunities, entrepreneurs can gain practical knowledge, demonstrate their developments, connect with potential investors, and explore new business prospects.

Conclave of the Future

This conclave further brings together founders, investors, and industry leaders, creating a venue for substantive discussions on innovation, funding, and business scaling. All these initiatives aim to help entrepreneurs expand their networks, increase visibility, and build relationships that can accelerate their growth.

The breadth of represented sectors is another reason why the summit stands out. From IT and deep tech, advanced technologies, fintech, healthcare, and biotechnology to electro-semiconductors, cybersecurity, data centers, and Global Capability Centers (GCCs), the summit explores technologies transforming business and creating new avenues for growth. It also extends beyond traditional tech domains, examining emerging opportunities in electric mobility, circular economy, orange economy, and educational technology (edtech), emphasizing how innovation changes industries, opens new markets, and creates opportunities for entrepreneurs.

For companies aiming to identify emerging trends, explore cross-industry opportunities, and understand where the next wave of growth might come from, this diversity makes BTS 2026 a valuable platform for discovery, collaboration, and business development.

The future belongs to entrepreneurs who are ready to dream, innovate, and take the next step. Bengaluru Tech Summit 2026 provides a platform to exchange ideas, gain fresh perspectives, and forge connections that can open new doors. After all, sometimes one conversation, a new point of view, or an unexpected connection can be the start of something extraordinary.
