Shapoorji Pallonji Group plans to raise up to $200 million to repay debts

Shapoorji Pallonji Group, an Indian conglomerate, aims to raise between $150 and $200 million USD due to the company's growing debt obligations.

According to available information, SP Group intends to raise funds through private lending by issuing additional rupee bonds. These bonds will initially be sold by the Eqyizen Investment Pvt. division in July. Approximately half of the funds raised will be directed towards repaying debts to creditors Porteast Investment Ltd., another SP Group subsidiary. The remaining funds will be used to service other group debts. Sources added that negotiations are in the early stages, and the final size and terms may change.

The new financing will help SP Group reduce Porteast's liabilities and lessen the pressure on its debt-to-asset ratio. Representatives of SP Group did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The conglomerate is facing increasing strain due to approaching debt repayment deadlines and the prolonged wait for asset monetization. Among these assets is a significant stake in Tata Sons Pvt, where management is debating a potential public listing. The Mistry family, which controls SP Group, is the second-largest shareholder in Tata Sons with a stake of about 18.4%.

SP Group's latest fundraising plan emerged after the company borrowed approximately ₹4,450 crore ($467 million) in September through Eqyizen and dollar bonds issued by another subsidiary, Mercury Finance Co. These funds were used for amortization payments due to Porteast.

Sources reported that the group plans to complete the new financing by mid-November.
