Tourists are allowed to bring cash into Uzbekistan without any restrictions on the amount. However, there is an important condition: if the total amount of cash exceeds the equivalent of one hundred million soums, all these funds must be declared in the customs declaration.
This rule is particularly significant for travelers who intend to take the remaining portion of the money out of the country after completing their trip. When crossing the border, all foreign and national currency held must be declared if its total volume exceeds the established limit. Tourists may also voluntarily declare amounts lower than this threshold.
Cash Export Rules
When leaving Uzbekistan, if a declaration was not made, it is permitted to take cash up to the equivalent of one hundred million soums. Exceeding this amount entails the application of additional customs requirements. For foreign citizens, information about the amount declared upon entry is critically important.
Why is it important to keep the declaration?
Tourists often forget to declare large sums when crossing the border. Although some money is spent during the stay in the country, the remaining reserve may continue to exceed the established limit. If there are documents confirming the legal import of cash, difficulties may arise upon departure.
For example, if a tourist brings 15 thousand dollars, this amount exceeds the equivalent of one hundred million soums and must therefore be stated in the declaration. Even if some money is spent during the trip, having the declaration will help confirm the legality of the remaining amount, even if it exceeds the established threshold.
To avoid potential problems at customs, it is recommended to follow several guidelines: fully declare cash if its total value exceeds the equivalent of one hundred million soums; always keep your own copy of the declaration until leaving the country; remember that the equivalent in soums is determined by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan's exchange rate on the day of crossing the border; and if any questions arise, consult with customs officials before passing through control.
Adhering to these norms will ensure no unforeseen difficulties upon leaving Uzbekistan. It should be noted that since the beginning of the current year, Uzbekistan has welcomed 10.3 million foreign tourists, which is 20.4% more than in the same period of 2025. Interest in the country is shown not only by neighboring countries but also by countries from far abroad.
