Silver coins became cheaper by ₹13000 in a week, falling in price

A significant decline in prices for gold and silver has been observed in the commodities and precious metals markets. A sharp drop in the value of both metals occurred on Friday, leading to a substantial decrease in silver prices and a rapid fall in gold.

On the MCX exchange, the price of silver is 178,900 rupees per kilogram. On Friday, the cost of silver decreased by 10 thousand rupees. Similarly, the price of gold fell to 1.38 lakh rupees for 24-carat gold, showing a decrease of 4000 rupees.

Previously, the price of silver on MCX reached a record high of 4.20 lakh rupees per kilogram in January, but it has now dropped to 1.78 lakh rupees. Thus, the total loss in the value of silver amounted to 2.42 lakh rupees.

On the IBJA website, the price of 999 purity silver reached 1.82 lakh rupees per kilogram. On Friday, a drop of more than 8000 rupees was recorded there. Over one week, the price of silver in the precious metals market decreased by 13000 rupees.

In India, silver coins are issued in various weights. However, coins weighing 10 grams, 20 grams, 50 grams, and 100 grams are most frequently purchased. Coins of larger weights are also available in the market, as well as a 5-gram coin; the 10-gram coin is the most common.

When purchasing a silver coin in the precious metals market, its cost may be as follows:

  • Coin weighing 5 grams — 910 rupees
  • Coin weighing 10 grams — 1820 rupees
  • Coin weighing 20 grams — 3640 rupees
  • Coin weighing 50 grams — 9100 rupees
  • Coin weighing 100 grams — 18,200 rupees

It is important to note that the specified prices do not include any manufacturing charges or VAT. If the jeweler charges more money, you should clarify exactly which charges were added and in what amount.

According to the new silver stamping rules, effective from September 1, 2025, silver items with a stamp feature three elements: the standard BIS mark, the purity class, such as 999 purity, and a six-digit alphanumeric HUID code. Authenticity can be checked by entering the HUID code into the BIS Care application. Additionally, genuine silver can be tested by placing it on a magnet—genuine silver is not attracted by a magnet. If a coin sticks to a magnet, it may indicate that it is counterfeit or made of an alloy. Another method is to place a piece of ice on the silver; since it is warm, the ice will begin to melt quickly. You can also tap the silver coin against another metal coin; the sound will be clear and prolonged. Authenticity can also be determined by the weight and shape indicated on the silver.

Sharp drop in gold and silver prices: Silver fell by 17,000 rupees, gold also lost value

A significant decrease in the price of gold and silver is being observed. Prices for both metals have fallen substantially in Delhi and Chennai. On Friday, silver dropped by ten thousand rupees, and gold prices showed a decline exceeding 4,000 rupees.

The reason for this price collapse was the release of inflation data from the USA. Inflation in America exceeds the central bank's target rate by two percent. This prompts forecasts of further interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. If the trend of rising rates continues, a further decline in gold and silver prices is expected.

On Friday, the price of 10 grams of gold on the MCX fell to 138,419 rupees, while the cost of silver decreased by more than 10 thousand rupees, reaching 178,900 rupees per kilogram.

A substantial decrease in precious metal prices has also been recorded internationally. On the Comex on Friday, the price stood at $3,884.90 per ounce, corresponding to a drop of 3.63 percent. The price of silver fell by 6.20%, amounting to $49.14 per ounce.

Over the past week, silver has fallen by 17,000 rupees. If the price on October 23 was 1.95 lakh rupees, it has now dropped to 1.78 lakh rupees per kilogram. The fall of more than 10 thousand rupees occurred only on Friday.

Over the week, the value of gold has also decreased by 4,000 rupees. The price on the MCX fell from 1.42 lakh to 1.38 lakh rupees per 10 grams, with most of this decrease occurring specifically on Friday.

Previously, silver reached a record high in January at 4.20 lakh rupees, but it has now fallen by 2.42 lakh rupees, reaching 1.78 lakh rupees. Similarly, the price of gold has decreased by 55 thousand rupees from the mark of 1.93 lakh rupees to the current 1.38 lakh rupees.

In Delhi, 24-carat gold is valued at 1,38,440 rupees per 10 grams, and silver has reached the mark of 2 lakh rupees.

Silver reaches lowest price in 10 months; analysts advise phased buying strategy

Amidst the holidays, there is a significant decline in silver prices, with daily quotes falling. In January of this year, the price of silver reached the mark of 4.21 lakh rupees per kilogram, but since then, the cost has sharply decreased.

On Tuesday, October 27, the price on MCX dropped to 1.91 lakh rupees per kilogram, which is the lowest figure in the last ten months. This contrasts with last October's prices, which fluctuated between 2.10 and 2.20 lakh rupees per kilogram. During Tuesday, a drop of 4000 rupees per kilogram was recorded, corresponding to a 2% decrease during trading.

Compared to the record high in January of 4.21 lakh rupees, silver is currently cheaper by approximately 2.30 lakh rupees. The question arises whether this period is an ideal time to buy ahead of the holiday season, or if further price declines are possible. Experts advise investors to consider purchasing silver gradually, for example, through a SIP format.

Silver is trading at a level that is 53-54% below its historical high. Technically, the asset is in a zone that can be characterized as 'oversold'. Nevertheless, market specialists warn that investing the entire amount at once based solely on the decline could lead to losses. Therefore, a more sensible approach is to invest in installments.

If you plan to buy one kilogram of silver, equivalent to approximately 2 lakh rupees, you can start by purchasing 250 grams (about 50 thousand rupees) today. Then, you should purchase another 250 grams in subsequent days, completing the investment of the entire amount within three months.

For those who prefer a digital format, it is recommended to use Silver ETFs or Silver Mutual Fund FoFs, depositing a fixed amount weekly or monthly. Buying physical silver incurs additional costs in the form of manufacturing charges and VAT. Consequently, Silver ETFs or e-silver are more preferable options for long-term returns. If physical silver is purchased, one should choose coins or bars to avoid manufacturing charges.

The significant drop in silver prices is due to several factors. Firstly, the rise in the dollar index and the increase in global bond yields during the US Federal Reserve meetings put pressure on precious metal prices. As a result, silver trades around $54 per ounce on COMEX. Additionally, the slowdown in global production has led to some decline in industrial demand for silver.

Over the last month, the price of silver has fallen by approximately 40 thousand rupees per kilogram. According to experts, now is the right time for gradual investment in silver, as a recovery in the global economic situation could lead to a significant increase in prices.
