The Indian T20 team has once again demonstrated its dominance by setting a new world record. After two victories in the T20 World Cup, the Indian squad achieved a significant result during a series of matches against New Zealand.
Despite losing to New Zealand in the fifth T20 match, which took place at Sedden Park and ended with a seven-wicket difference, the Indian team accomplished something unprecedented. India became the first team in the world to score 400 sixes in T20 Internationals in a calendar year.
During this match against the Kiwis, Indian batsmen hit 11 powerful sixes, allowing them to surpass the mark of 400 sixes. Throughout the season, in 40 matches, Indian batsmen created a real storm of runs and sixes, leaving other teams far behind. Teams from Australia and West Indies, which hold second and third places on this list (with 224 sixes each), did not come close to India's figures.
In particular, young aggressive opener Abhishek Sharma led in hitting sixes for India, scoring 86 sixes alone. He was followed by Ishan Kishan with 60 sixes and Sanju Samson with 50 sixes, making a substantial contribution to achieving this record. Furthermore, only against New Zealand this year did India hit a total of 142 sixes, which is the highest number of sixes hit against one opposing team in a year.
Regarding the match itself, the Indian team looked in a difficult position after losing two wickets at 19 runs. However, after this, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer started to dominate. Both players built a fiery partnership on the third wicket for 93 runs. Ishan Kishan scored 61 runs, doing so off 31 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes. Captain Shreyas Iyer had a brilliant match, earning 50 runs in just 23 balls thanks to 3 fours and 4 sixes. At the end of the match, Neman Dheer (33 runs) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (22 runs) also showed their game.
Nevertheless, fast bowler Adam Milne of New Zealand played a decisive role, taking 4 wickets and conceding only 19 runs, which allowed India to be stopped at 191/8 in 20 overs. Following this, New Zealand won the match by seven wickets, losing three wickets.
