JP Pietersen highly praises Ethan Hooker's professionalism ahead of Sharks vs Munster match

At the age of 23, Ethan Hooker is already a regular member of the Springbok squad, but his next challenge is to take on a leadership role in the clash with Munster in Limerick.

The Sharks midfielder marks his 50th appearance for the Durban-based team in the match against Munster, scheduled for Saturday. Coach JP Pietersen expresses confidence that Hooker will be able to take on greater responsibility in the absence of injured captain Andre Esterhuizen.

Pietersen noted: 'Ethan Hooker, 50th match—he is a local lad from Durban, who studied near Kings Park in Westville Boys High.' He added that it was a dream for Hooker to play for the Sharks his whole life, and that his 50th match arriving so soon is a special moment.

The coach emphasized: 'He always told me that central midfield is his favorite position. That's why he plays at number 12 in his 50th match, and what a valuable player he is for the Sharks. He is a true professional.'

Pietersen also highlighted the player's positive qualities: 'Everyone likes his energy, how he takes care of himself, and how he upholds standards in the group.'

Since Esterhuizen is unavailable, the coach is confident that the young centre will take on additional duties against the strong Munster side. Pietersen stated: 'He definitely belongs in our leadership group, and he shows it on the field. The responsibility of leading the defense rests on him; we have lost our captain Andre, and Ethan will have to fill this role.'

The coach expressed full support for the player: 'I am confident he will manage and lead us. I always believe in his words and actions. As you can see, he does this for both the Sharks and the Springboks. I am extremely proud of what Ethan has achieved at such a young age and how he motivates himself on and off the field.'

Despite Hooker's successes, another young graduate of Westville, Zeke Siyaya, will strive to make an impression after not being included in the Springbok squad for November. The 19-year-old impressed Pietersen with his performances for the Sharks, but the coach understands that patience is important for a recently school-leaver.

Pietersen commented: 'Zeke was good for us. He is still a child, and sometimes we as coaches have to remind ourselves that he has just finished school.'

He continued: 'He was outstanding and learns as he goes. It is good to see that when thrown into deep water, he is capable of swimming and fighting for his place.'

In Pietersen's view, Siyaya should use his exclusion from the Springbok squad as motivation rather than letting disappointment affect his progress. The coach advised: 'He must stay motivated because you never know when injuries might happen in international matches and an opportunity might arise. Obviously, he is disappointed, but I think he should use this as a challenge to show that he is capable of doing even more.'

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo joins Belgian agency amid potential departure from Kaizer Chiefs

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has made a significant step in his career by joining the growing sports agency Lupus Sports. This move is expected to assist him with a potential exit from Kaizer Chiefs in the near future.

Ngcobo's decision to engage with the agency based in Belgium came as he fell out of the Chiefs' main squad, seemingly not fitting into the plans of coach Fernando Da Cruz. Nevertheless, the agency highly rated the player, noting that he still possesses considerable potential.

In an Instagram post, the agency described Ngcobo as 'a technically gifted left-footed midfielder known for his excellent ball control, quick decision-making, vision, and passing ability.'

Born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Mshini developed in the youth structures of Kaizer Chiefs before making his senior team debut in 2017. Since then, he has gained valuable experience participating in top-level matches.

His first appearance for the Chiefs senior team was in March 2019 in a 1-0 victory against the Maritzburg United national team (now known as Durban City). Due to his skillful left foot, he was expected to become a key figure in the team's midfield.

However, the player's progress was hindered by injuries, dips in form, and fitness issues. Consequently, despite over 100 appearances for Amakhosi, he has been unable to realize his full potential seven years after his senior debut.

Ngcobo's contract with Chiefs expires at the end of the current season. However, his decision to collaborate with Lupus Sports may allow him to start a new chapter during the upcoming January transfer window.

Although Lupus Sports is headquartered in Belgium, they manage a strong portfolio of South African players both locally and internationally. Their client list includes Kamogelo Selebelele (Orlando Pirates), Samukelo Kabini (Molde FK, Norway), Bathusi Aubaas (Mamelodi Sundowns), and Aden McCarthy (Sabah FK, Azerbaijan).

Graham Smith believes Marco Jansen is the best all-rounder in Test matches

Former captain of Proteas team Graham Smith predicts that Marco Jansen will become the best all-round player in future Test matches.

During the second Test match against Australia, held at St George's Park, Jansen demonstrated outstanding play on the third day. When South Africa was in a difficult position at 110/6, Jansen came onto the field with his captain Temba Bavuma and made an impressive counter-attack.

This left-handed right-hander scored 85 runs in just 100 balls, participating in a partnership for 132 runs with Bavuma, which drastically changed the course of the game in favor of South Africa.

This is not the first time Jansen has made a significant contribution to Proteas in the lower order. Last year, during the second Test in Guwahati, he also scored a magnificent 93 runs, helping Proteas secure their first victory in a series against India in 20 years.

Furthermore, he is a deadly left-arm fast bowler who has already achieved four five-wicket hauls.

In his column for Betway, Smith stated: 'Marco Jansen is one of the most talented cricketers currently. He bowls very well and is capable of playing impactful innings in the lower or middle order for South Africa.'

He continued: 'I have no doubt that Jansen will become the best all-rounder in Test matches in the future. I believe his bowling and consistency are constantly improving. Everything is starting to develop, and he is also beginning to take key Test wickets, getting strong players out.'

Adding that they have seen his skills grow in all formats, Smith noted that he captained Proteas in a record 109 Test matches, including leading the team to the ICC Test World Cup in 2012. He believes Jansen could bring an extra 'X' factor to their teams.

'When I think about the teams I played in, having Marco Jansen at number seven or eight would have been ideal for us,' he said. 'He takes charge of the game and has a pleasing style of play.'

After Jansen fulfilled his batting duty in the first innings, Proteas now hopes he can achieve a similar result with the ball while Australia continues to bat, replying to the hosts' 425/9, starting at 3/1.
