Gail's net profit doubled to 4724 crore rupees due to high sales volumes

Gail (India) reported a significant increase in consolidated net profit of 138% year-on-year, reaching 4724 crore rupees for the quarter ending September 30, 2026-27 (Q2FY27). This figure is substantially higher than 1989 crore rupees the previous year. The growth was driven by strong performance in gas transportation and marketing.

Despite geopolitical difficulties, the operations of the state-owned gas distribution company demonstrated high volumes across all major segments. Revenue from operating activities for the September quarter increased by 33% year-on-year, amounting to 47,301 crore rupees.

The company's board of directors also gave preliminary approval for the listing of shares of its subsidiary, Gail Gas Ltd (GGL), through an Initial Public Offering (IPO), with the equity stake being reduced to 25%. Director and Chairman Deepak Gupta emphasized that the main priority remains meeting customer needs and ensuring uninterrupted supply.

Amid the crisis in West Asia, natural gas consumption in India has risen as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies remain limited. During the second quarter, Gail recorded natural gas transportation volumes at 130.10 million standard cubic meters per day (mscmd), compared to 122.36 mscmd in the first quarter. Gas marketing volume reached 97.23 mscmd in the second quarter, exceeding the 93.82 mscmd recorded in the previous quarter.

Revenue from the natural gas transportation segment grew by 21% year-on-year, totaling 3,311 crore rupees. Meanwhile, revenue from natural gas marketing increased by 32% year-on-year, reaching 41,226 crore rupees in the second quarter. For the first half of the fiscal year 27 (H1FY27), total capital expenditure amounted to 7,600 crore rupees, including 1,425 crore rupees incurred in the second quarter.

As part of its long-term growth strategy, Gail plans annual capital expenditures of approximately 12,900 crore rupees.
