The 'Central Asia Gas Circle' project may create an additional route for gas supply from Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan. This was announced by Valery Dukro, Executive Director of the Global Gas Centre (GGC) in Geneva, at the international conference 'Turkmenistan Oil and Gas – 2026' in Ashgabat.
According to Dukro, if the gas pipelines are interconnected between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, this new route will also expand the possibility of supplying gas to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. At the same time, Turkmenistan's existing export obligations will be maintained during this process.
Currently, Turkmenistan has signed a short-term contract with UzGasTrade to supply up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas to Uzbekistan, for example, in 2023.
According to statistics, in January-August 2026, Uzbekistan imported a total of $1.21 billion worth of gas from Russia and Turkmenistan, although the statistics do not specify the individual share of each country.
According to Euronews data, the 'gas circle' may include over 3,000 kilometers of new and modernized pipelines. The initiative's authors estimate the value of this project at approximately $5 billion and its annual throughput capacity at 20 billion cubic meters.
Such a network aims to increase supply stability by connecting existing gas pipelines and managing gas flows in various directions, especially during the winter season. Dukro emphasized that connecting gas networks, attracting investments, and diversifying export routes are key tasks.
