Startup Pixxel established a federal US subsidiary to expand work with US government agencies

Bengaluru-based spacetech startup Pixxel has established Pixxel Federal, a subsidiary in the United States. The goal of this move is to expand the company's cooperation with American civilian, defense, and intelligence agencies.

This step reflects the growing significance of privately operated satellites in government operations. These operations cover a wide range of tasks: from environmental monitoring and resource mapping to ensuring national security.

Furthermore, the creation of a subsidiary signals Pixxel's ambition to go beyond simply providing specialized satellite imagery. The company plans to offer more comprehensive solutions, including software, satellite systems, and various sensing technologies.

The new subsidiary will build upon Pixxel's existing interactions with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).

Pixxel's founder and CEO, Avais Ahmed, noted that the US government market represents a significant opportunity for Pixxel. He added that by expanding its capabilities beyond hyperspectral imaging into advanced sensing technologies, software, and satellite systems, the new structure will allow the company to interact more closely with federal agencies, better understand their missions, and provide custom-tailored solutions.

A key part of the company's offering is hyperspectral imaging. This technology captures reflected light across hundreds of narrow bands of wavelengths, including those outside the visible spectrum. Since different materials absorb and reflect light differently, they create recognizable patterns known as spectral signatures. These signatures can help distinguish minerals, vegetation, and other substances in ways inaccessible to traditional satellite imagery.

The application of this technology is demonstrated by the U.S. Geological Survey, which uses hyperspectral surveys to identify minerals, soils, and vegetation, highlighting the technology's potential in environmental research and resource exploration.

Pixxel sees applications in defense and intelligence, including camouflage detection, terrain assessment, and target identification. Other potential areas of use include searching for rare earth elements and critical minerals, crop monitoring, and tracking environmental changes.

Allison Jenkins, who previously led Pixxel's business in the public sector, has been appointed CEO of Pixxel Federal. The subsidiary's board of directors includes retired US Army Lieutenant General Ray Palumbo, former Northrop Grumman executive Patrick M. Antkovic, and former senior intelligence official Frank K. Avila.

The company also plans to open an office in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The company's government relations have been developing over the past two years. In September 2024, Pixxel was included in NASA's Commercial Small Satellite Data Acquisition Program, a multi-provider agreement allowing the agency to procure commercial Earth observation data.

In May 2026, the NRO included Pixxel, alongside EarthDaily and ICEYE, in its strategic expansion initiative for commercial capabilities to increase access to commercial sensing opportunities.

The broader industry is moving in the same direction. US policy has long encouraged government agencies to utilize commercial remote sensing capabilities when appropriate, while maintaining national security guarantees. Recently, the U.S. Department of Defense and Space Force developed strategies for integrating commercial space services into national security operations.

IG Defence and MSA Global (Oman) explore joint drone system manufacturing

The Indian company IG Defence and Oman-based MSA Global have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to explore possibilities for the joint development and local production of drone systems and anti-drone complexes for Oman and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

This agreement links India's ambitions in defense exports with security challenges in the Gulf countries; however, at present, it is purely exploratory and does not confirm any order, factory, or deployment.

Reuters previously reported that Iran and its allied groups have carried out at least 135 drone and missile attacks on 84 infrastructure facilities in Gulf states since February, when the United States and Israel began bombing Iran.

The Chairman of MSA Global, Colonel M. S. Atwal (Retd.), noted that 'the evolving security situation in the Gulf underscores the importance of strengthening indigenous defense capabilities and creating resilient regional production ecosystems.'

The memorandum was exchanged during the Defense Industry Cooperation Seminar between India and Oman, held in Muscat in October. India and Oman already have established defense ties, including joint exercises involving all three branches of the Indian armed forces.

IG Defence, formerly known as IG Drones, stated that discussions will cover three systems. The company describes KAL as a unilateral unmanned aerial system for attack with a claimed range of up to 1000 kilometers. BAJ is an unmanned interceptor designed for use in Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS), and JWALA is under development as a micro-missile system for counter-drone operations.

IG Defence CEO Bodhisattva Sanghapriya stated that 'our partnership with MSA Global reflects our vision of bringing Indian domestic defense technologies to global markets through strategic industrial cooperation.'

This agreement comes amid the growth of India's defense exports, which reached 236,222 crore rupees in the fiscal year 2024-25, a 12.04% increase from the previous year. Furthermore, on October 26, India preliminarily approved military procurements worth 212,000 crore rupees, including anti-drone systems and long-range strike drones.

Other companies are also responding to this demand. In May, French CS Group received a NATO contract to supply two anti-drone systems for its headquarters in Brussels. In August, American firm Powerus announced a separate contract for anti-drone technology to protect Middle Eastern energy infrastructure.

Purple Mountain Laboratories and China Mobile Unveil Platform for Connecting AXP Agents

Purple Mountain Laboratories has launched the AXP platform, designed to facilitate communication between artificial intelligence (AI) agents, which operates based on deterministic networks. The presentation of this platform took place on October 16th at the Tenth Conference on Future Network Development in Nanjing. China Mobile, Jiangsu Future Network Group, and Jiangsu Future Networks Innovation Institute were involved in its development.

The developers position AXP as the industry's first agent connection platform built on deterministic network principles, although this claim has not yet been independently verified. A deterministic network implies the network's ability to guarantee bounded and predictable traffic delivery within a specific area, unlike the best-effort behavior of standard internet connections.

AXP applies this concept to a growing number of software agents that need to locate and invoke each other across various organizations and regions. According to an official announcement, the platform is capable of registering up to one million agents and simultaneously supporting 100,000 active agents.

The platform performs joint planning of computational and network resources, handles transformations between different protocols used by heterogeneous agents, detects failures, and switches within seconds. Furthermore, it enables semantic addressing, allowing an agent to be located by its functionality in approximately one hundred milliseconds.

Operating on CENI, China's national large-scale experimental site for future networks, the team reported that AXP successfully implemented high-precision agent addressing across different domains over distances exceeding 4,000 kilometers and reduced end-to-end task execution time by more than 20%, although the baseline for this comparison was not specified.

The presented materials did not specify which agent protocols AXP transforms. Information regarding support for widely used open standards such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) or Agent2Agent (A2A) was not disclosed, nor was an explanation provided for the acronym AXP.

Purple Mountain Laboratories stated that it has begun joint testing and industrial verification with telecommunications operators, communication equipment manufacturers, and a major steel enterprise across multiple scenarios. The date of commercial availability or pricing policy has not been announced.
