Quartz vs. Nano White Comparison: Which Stone to Choose for a Kitchen Countertop?

When designing a kitchen, it is crucial to select the correct countertop. A countertop is the working surface where food is prepared, vegetables are cut, and dishes are placed. Currently, materials such as quartz and Nano White are popular for kitchens. Both look aesthetically pleasing and give the kitchen a clean, modern appearance due to their white color. However, they differ in composition, cost, heat resistance, and maintenance methods. Understanding the differences between these materials will be useful if you plan to build a new kitchen or replace an old countertop.

A quartz countertop is a material made by mixing fine particles of natural quartz stone with resin and dyes. This mixture is then formed into a solid slab using machinery. The resin acts as a binder, holding the stone particles together. The advantage of quartz lies in the wide range of available colors, designs, and patterns. For example, designs imitating marble with light gray lines on a white background can be found, as well as options with a slight sheen and various patterns.

The quartz surface resists stains from water, oil, and food well, which simplifies cleaning. Nevertheless, due to the presence of resin, placing very hot cookware directly on it can lead to discoloration of the surface. Therefore, it is recommended to use trivets for hot pans, pots, or multi-cookers.

Nano White is a finished material that is usually sold as crystallized glass, meaning specially treated glass material. It is not mined directly from quarries like natural stone but is manufactured in a factory. Its main feature is its bright and uniform white color. If you need an absolutely white and glossy kitchen countertop, Nano White can be a good choice. There are no small pores on its surface, so water and many types of stains do not penetrate inside.

It is generally quite easy to clean stains from turmeric, oil, and other food products on Nano White. Furthermore, it withstands heat and acidic substances better than quartz; acidic substances include lemon juice, vinegar, and tamarind paste. However, if heavy objects fall heavily onto its surface, cracks or edge damage may appear. Therefore, when installing, it is important to choose a quality material and an experienced craftsman.

Although both materials are good options for the kitchen, there are significant differences between them in some aspects.

Firstly, regarding hot cookware placement: direct contact between a hot pan or pot and the quartz surface can damage its color because the resin may be affected by high temperatures. In contrast, Nano White is more heat resistant. Nevertheless, in both cases, it is best to avoid direct contact with hot items and use trivets.

Secondly, stain protection: both surfaces offer good protection against dirt. On quartz, oil, tea, and turmeric are usually easy to remove. The Nano White surface also prevents liquids from penetrating inside. However, leaving any colored substances, such as turmeric or oil, on any countertop for a long time is not recommended.

Thirdly, design and color: quartz offers more design options. It can have patterns resembling marble, various colors, and numerous patterns. Conversely, Nano White is valued mainly for its shiny white color. If you need a perfectly white and glossy kitchen, it might suit your needs.

Fourthly, cleaning and maintenance: Both materials are easy to clean. A soft cloth, water, and mild soap can be used for cleaning. It is advisable to avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, and steel wool. Prolonged exposure to lemon juice, vinegar, or tamarind paste can negatively affect the shine of quartz.

Fifthly, durability and breakage risk: Quartz is suitable for daily use, but it can also be damaged by extreme heat and impacts. Nano White handles heat better, but due to its glass structure, cracks or edge damage may appear if heavy objects fall on it. Therefore, both materials require careful handling.

The cost of quartz and Nano White can vary depending on quality, design, thickness, brand, and market conditions.

The choice depends on your needs and budget. If you prefer a variety of colors and designs, quartz is a good choice, as it offers marble patterns and easily matches different interiors. On the other hand, if you need a glossy white surface and cook frequently, you might consider Nano White, as it is more resistant to heat and acidic substances.
