Rashid Khan becomes the first bowler in the world to surpass 200 wickets in T20I

Afghan star spinner Rashid Khan has reached a significant milestone in the T20 International format, becoming the first bowler in the world to accumulate 200 wickets in this format.

The historic achievement was made during the second match of the T20 series against Zimbabwe, held in Sharjah on Thursday (October 29). He secured this victory by taking the wicket of Madurmni Tarivanashe.

Rashid Khan debuted in T20 International against Zimbabwe back in October 2015. Previously, in September 2025, he was recognized as the most successful bowler in T20 International, surpassing Tim Saudi. By reaching the 200-wicket mark, he reinforced his dominance in this area. Currently, Adil Rashid from England is second in this metric with 171 wickets.

In the same match, Afghan players Ajmatullah Umarzai and Ejaz Ahmed Ahmedzai set historical records. They formed the largest partnership for the sixth wicket in T20 International history, scoring 142 runs. This pair surpassed the previous record of 139 runs set by Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford.

Furthermore, this became the largest partnership for any wicket in T20 International history by Afghanistan. Previously, such a partnership was achieved by Mohammed Nabi and Ibrahim Jadaran with a score of 86 runs.

During the match, Afghanistan, having lost the toss, started with an attack, scoring 221 runs while losing seven wickets. Umarzai demonstrated powerful play, scoring 116 runs off 50 balls. Ejaz Ahmed Ahmedzai also played brightly, earning 52 runs off 27 balls.

In response, Zimbabwe started well when Brian Bennett and Innocent Kaiya scored 39 runs for the first wicket. However, after this, the Zimbabwean team lost five wickets, conceding 84 runs. Captain Sikander Raja played an inconspicuous role, scoring 106 runs without being dismissed, and Tafadzwa Tsiga added 31 runs without being dismissed, ensuring the team reached 120 runs for the sixth wicket, but ultimately the team managed to score only 202 runs in 20 overs.

Courtney Walsh became the first bowler to reach 500 Test wickets

In the world of cricket, there are bowlers who have gained recognition due to their speed, physical condition, and consistently outstanding performances. Former fast bowler from the West Indies, Courtney Walsh, is one such player who set a new standard through his perseverance, physical fitness, and magnificent bowling.

Walsh was born on October 30, 1962, in Kingston, Jamaica. He became the first bowler in the history of world Test cricket to reach the milestone of 500 wickets. During his career, he played 132 Test matches, taking 519 wickets. His average was 24.44, and his strike rate was 57.8.

Walsh played during the golden age of West Indian fast bowlers, playing alongside legends such as Malcolm Marshall and Curtly Ambrose. Initially, he focused on fulfilling manual labor duties, but later, thanks to experience and skill, he became the team's leading bowler.

Courtney Walsh achieved his 500th Test wicket in 2001 when he dismissed South African legend Jacques Kallis with an LBW in Port-of-Spain. He became the first player to reach this milestone in his Test career. Throughout his Test career, he demonstrated exceptional effectiveness, taking five or more wickets in 22 matches. His best performance in a Test match was 7 wickets for 37 runs.

The partnership between Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose created a unique mark on world cricket. In 49 joint matches, they took 421 wickets. While Ambrose was distinguished by his height and accuracy, Walsh's pace, bounce, and ability to remain consistently in the game posed serious problems for batsmen.

Many of Courtney Walsh's performances remain in the memory of fans. Among them are the tense victory of the West Indies over Australia in Adelaide in 1993, which was won by one round; the dangerous match against Mike Erton in Jamaica in 1994; and his crucial role in saving the team during their tour of India in 1995.

Walsh's physical fitness was impressive: he bowled 30019 deliveries in Test matches. His ODI performance was also significant. He took 227 wickets in 205 ODI matches with an average of 30.47. In this format, his best performance was 1 wicket for 5 runs.

Although Walsh's batting was not a strong suit, he was dismissed for a duck 43 times in Tests. However, this statistical figure does not define his career, given his contribution to bowling.

Indian batsman Abhishek Sharma achieved a historic feat during the T20 series match against New Zealand on Thursday (October 22). The game was played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, where the team was aiming for 226 runs.

Abhishek Sharma surpassed him in this regard. Suryakumar Yadav is also listed among the leaders, holding third place with five such sixes.
